So im planning to finally ctb this weekend after many failed attempts prior to joining! I've been reading about partial hangings, as it's my preferred method. I am not finding a ton of posts on this, so apologies if this has already been answered, and im dumb!! I'll be brief!!
I've tried a couple of different ropes/cords in partial hanging attempts over the years. I felt there were some pros/cons to each. I wanted to know if there was a definitive answer as to what's best to use for partial hanging, or just go with whatever feels best to you?
My Experiences
(Poor quality) Kernmantle style rope:
Cons:
- Barely held my weight
- Stretchy-er than desired
- Medium difficulty getting close to KO
- Hard to get undone when SI kicks in
Pros:
- Hard to get undone when SI kicks in
- Pretty comfortable for what it is
(Good quality) Braided style rope:
Cons:
- significant rope burn
- Harder to get above the door
- Medium difficulty getting close to KO
Pros:
- Felt sturdy
- Medium comfort
(Cat 6) Ethernet Cable:
Cons:
- Stretchy, not too bad initially, but I got back up after KO'ing, idk how, but this may be why
- not rated for this kind of weight
Pros:
- Passing out seemed to happen really quickly
- Comfort similar to the first one
- Easier to get right from my experience
Conclusion
So, given all of this, my attempt this weekend will likely be with an ethernet cable. I'm just a bit worried about waking up after passing out again. That was BAD. However, I very well could have messed up the method so open to clarification here, but from what I've read, I believe I was doing it correctly. Other than that, ethernet seems pretty ideal, as it's quick. What are others' thoughts here ? Would using the Braided rope be a better bet? Is there some different type of Rope/Cord I should consider instead?
I really appreciate you taking the time to read all of that, and I just wanted to thank this website. It's really hard to do this alone! Thank you again, and I'm sorry if I made a mistake while posting this. My hardest is often not good enough, lol.
