• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

I wrote the attached html file that you can download to your computer. You need to rename it to an html extension, and then open it with a browser.

Is it dangerous to run a random html file on your computer? Probably. I hope somebody can read the code and vouch for me that it is not dangerous.

What is in the file:

The Peaceful Pill Handbook describes 12 methods and provides
a "Reliability - Peacefulness" table for each. The table scores each method according
to eight criteria, the main ones being Reliability and Peacefulness. Each method is given a final
score combining the scores for each criteria.

The final score of a method is done by setting a fixed weight to each criteria.
However, readers may have a different opinion on these. For example, a reader
may not care at all about whether a method is detectable by authorities or not.

This attached html file, based on the 2022 version of the Peaceful Pill Handbook, lets you
chose the weights, and thus see how the methods rank
according to the importance you give to each criteria.

This is similar to the LTA calculator , which is based on a different data source for methods and scores.

Just wanted to add some more details about what I have done.

The PPH data gives more weight to the criteria of Reliability and Peacefulness, by using a scale of 0-10.
All the other criteria are on a scale of 0-5. The weights of the criteria are baked into
the scoring. There are two different scales for scoring. The total score for a method is done
by simply adding up all the scores for each criteria : /Sigma_i ( score[ i ] )

What I have done was "normalize" the scoring, so the scores of all criteria are normalized to
be between 0-10 ( I just multiplied the scores of the 0-5 scale criteria by 2 ).
The score for a method is calculated by multiplying the score for each criteria with it's
weight, and dividing by 10 : ( /Sigma_i ( weight[ i ] * score[ i ] ) ) /10

When using the weights in the PPH table, I get the same method scores that the PPH table shows.

@locked*n*loaded I don't understand what you mean. The Peaceful Pill handbook only has 13 methods. The list you showed has 28 methods.

It seems to me that the list you showed is based on the paper "Clinton Ernest Rhyne and Donald I. Templer and Lillian G. Brown and Noel B. Peters, "Dimensions of Suicide: Perceptions of Lethality, Time and Agony", In Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior, Vol. 25(3), 1995."

A long time ago, I was helping to write stuff for the ASBS web site, and I have written a separate calculator for that here:

Hmmm. Not sure now. Maybe it didn't come from there. Honestly, thought it did. When I have time, I'll look back through the PPH and see if it's in there.

Edit: Someone may have compiled the list based on data within the PPH. The list itself may have come from the old days of SS on Reddit. I looked through the 2022 PPH version and this list is not in it. Idk if it was in a previous version, though.

My guess is that past revisions of the PPH might have included the data from the article I mentioned. This makes sense because they wanted to help people decide which method to choose, and there aren't many resources for rating methods.

However, they have been doing their own ratings, at least in the 2022 and 2025 editions. These editions only include the more peaceful methods (because it is the Peaceful Pill Handbook...), and only include methods which they find reasonable. You can find a table collecting their ratings for these methods at the very end of their books.

This is the PPH rankings.
That's from lostallhope.com https://lostallhope.com/suicide-methods/statistics-most-lethal-methods/
It looks like a bunch of random numbers put into the table. No approximate protocols defined for each generic method (f.e., there is a big gap between inhaling CO from an industrial gas tank and breathing CO from car exhaust), the difference between time to LOC and time to death is ignored, no any meaningful definition of "agony" is provided. Minutes before death from headshot makes only ROFL reaction.
