Ask Hitler. I read Infinite Jest and I stumbled on the Wiki article of vabanque. As a Definition they give the following.
Va banque or Vabanque is a term from gambling, more precisely: from the card gambling game Pharo, which was very popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. The French phrase Va banque!, German Es die Bank!, means that a player places a bet in the amount of the current bank deposit (cf. the announcement Banco in baccarat).
Based on gambling, Vabanque generally refers to a risky venture in which you put everything at risk, hence the name Vabanque game.
A conversation between Hermann Göring and Adolf Hitler on the occasion of the British declaration of war in 1939 is recorded. Göring advised Hitler: "We want to stop playing Vabanque," to which Hitler replied: "I have always played Vabanque in my life."
I don't know why I can't stop comparing me to Hitler. I am a really risk averse Guy. I always tried to play safe. And it could not protect me. When I See how Big my desperation is I am becoming more and more a vabanque player. For example ordering SN and storing it under my bed. But it is Hard to play this game also love wise if you know how high the stakes are. I have the feeling I am playing more and more Russian roulette. Also with my therapist I think a Part of me wants that she drops me because this could finally drive me over the edge.
