  • Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

Hi,i was thinking about memory reconsolidation + propranalol therapy, but it turned out it doesn't help to cope complex psychological fears.
Are there any scientifically based ways to edit, modify, erase fear, memories as propranolol and the memory reconsolidation technique would ideally do?
I mean,a fear-erasing method, but not for natural fears like arachnophobia , but for complex psychological problems associated with fears as in this article.
Here are key quotes from an article for newcomers, explaining why this therapy is not effective for complex psychological problems :

«Researchers have proposed the concept of memory reconsolidation : "the reactivation-dependent induction of a transient, unstable state of a previously consolidated memory, during which the memory trace may be modified or disrupted, and requiring a time-dependent process of restabilization in order to persist.»

«In brief, participants with high fear of public speaking were required to undergo a public speaking task of variable duration, and then received either 40 mg of oral propranolol or placebo, so as to disrupt the putative post-reactivation process of reconsolidation.»

«Hence, propranolol affected physiology but not subjective anxiety»

«In conclusion, this systematic pilot study did not achieve reconsolidation-like effects for public speaking anxiety»

Hi idk if this is helpful but bc of a lot of abuse I have lots of mental illnesses and fears, like I'm scared of wearing shorter clothes, scared of people and talking to/interacting w them, and certain objects give me flashbacks too so im scared of those, but when I drink alcohol its usually better. I don't mean spending your whole day drunk or anything but I just drink a little bit on the days where it's rlly bad, and the effect lasts the whole day and it doesn't totally fix everything but it kinda lessens it and makes my fears/symptoms less severe so it helps. You might not wanna do it tho since I heard drinking a lot can damage your liver and if you dont wanna ctb you shouldnt do that. You said you wanted it to be scientific so here's an article that says that it can improve ptsd symptoms like fear/flashbacks/painful emotions, but it's only in the short term and it doesnt help you recover in the long term, its just a temporary solution

I would imagine Ketamine therapy is good for this. It's hot in America and now in variuos locations round the UK. Not cheap. MDMA therapy would also be useful.Safest option to do this with a therapist, though I have been down the self-medication path.

I did try hypnosis years ago - friends have had success (e.g. for fear of flying). For my depression, I had three sessinos and it did jack-shit.

Hope this helps

I'm from not english speaking country. What does ''jack-shit'' mean in your sentence?Does it mean ''it didn't help at all''?

Yes, it didn't help me. Different things help different people but my depression pretty chronic and hypnosis did nothing for me
