  • Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

Coping methods such as journal writing, taking walks, exercising etc. I learned a whole bunch in therapy but unfortunately they just didn't work for me and don't work to this day. I still do them when I have the energy. I really be trying.

I use all sorts of coping methods and distraction/keep busy. It does help to a degree but always still have it all going on in the background. When stop doing things get even worse again, so on and so forth.................

Depression coping skills don't, but anxiety ones often do.

They do help, but not to a sufficient level
+ being hit in all directions hinders everything . Wish had some quiet from the outside world .

Mentioned stuff does not work for me at all. MDMA was the only thing that helped me immensely to cope with reality.

Walks and exercising used to work for some time. Alcohol and cigs used to work too. Posting there works for now, but I don't know how long it lasts.

Temporarily for me.
I can get rid of my anxiety sometimes by focusing on breathing, among a few other things to sort of distract but it doesn't last unfortunately :')
For depression it's a nopeee

Honestly same. I think about it every so often but most days I'm just to tired to do it.

If I could put, "Fuck, no" as a response, I would.

Really, the only time I feel things is when I hurt. Physical, Psychological, etc. I don't cut (married, in my early 40s), but I'll slam my arms against bricks to feel something. Egg my wife to yell at me so I feel shame. It's not positive, but I feel SOMETHING when that happens. I don't drink anymore, but when I did, all the bad things I've ever done echoed in my brain. Same with all the (relatively) horrible things people did to me. And it was bliss, crying myself to sleep.

I only feel emotions when I cry, and it's never positive.

So, coping mechanisms don't work: journals, limited therapy sessions, deep breathing, asking Jesus for forgiveness, etc. Perhaps I haven't prayed enough. Lol.

I would say it does albeit very limited. It has taken my mind off of things, but then later, reality still catches up and life still generally sucks (the problems, both personal and environmental are still present). I am still suffering through even with coping methods and eventually copes will run out.

i'm not depressed when i'm distracted because i'm not thinking of all the bad things in my life at that moment. i'd say keeping busy is a temporary coping mechanism, and that most of my current coping mechanisms are temporary. as a matter of fact, most coping mechanisms in general are temporary, even the bad ones. the only long-term coping mechanism that has a chance of actually working is going to therapy or getting on some sort of medication, but healthy short-term coping mechanisms can help you along the way.

my healthy short-term coping mechanisms include playing guitar, writing all sorts of things, traveling and taking pictures of cool stuff with my dslr. i'm about to start attending therapy and going on medication, which'll be my long-term healthy coping mechanisms. i'm sure some of my bad coping mechanisms will stick with me, though... i love getting drunk and consuming a stupid amount of nicotine, and to be honest, i can't really tell if i do these things because i'm depressed or because i'm a college student. i think it might be both, considering that i don't want to quit at them in the chance even that i get "better".
