I feel like even when I'm trying to do all the right things to get better there's just not really much hope anyway. I was supposed to meet a new psychiatrist tomorrow, to not much surprise, he cancelled again. After 4 months of waiting and two cancellations I'm not interested in continuing to try to even meet this doctor. I'm trying hard not to let it bother me too much, but it makes me want to give up on recovery when I know I might just end up without my medications anyway.

About 30-40 years ago a change started in the medical field. Doctors no longer operated their own practice, they are now mostly employees of corporations. About half of all patients may change their appointments. The person handling the schedule wants to keep the appointment schedule as full as possible and often has to scramble to fill the schedule holes. Additionally a doctor may have to work at several different locations, so they can move him around a lot to maximize the number of people he sees and generate the maximum income.

This can leave patient feeling that no one cares, interestingly it can also leave the doctor feeling that no one cares.

If you are looking for a new doctor, you might try visiting some group therapy session and ask others who they might recommend. You could also called the local hospital and ask to talk with a psychiatric nurse and see what recommendations she might have. Although they can get in trouble if they get personal phone calls.

The world we live in is not kind to real people especially those who are not easily processed by the corporation machines. However, if one is creative, it is still possible to work around the fringe.
