Abbreviations are great. I don't really wanna type out "greatest of all time" or "United States of America" when I can simply just say GOAT or USA.

i think most communities naturally develop something like this tbh it's just natural that like for some stuff we abbreviate it so it's faster and others come from having like less recognisable terms probably idk

CTB I believe is a throwback to an earlier version of the site where people were afraid of the actual words being searched by pro-lifers and the site being targetted. That may go for other terms also.

Maybe we use CTB as a more gentle form of meaning suicide too.

I think we also tend to copy what we see here when we join. Almost to feel part of the club- as it were. Plus, lazyness!

It's not code, it's abbreviations - just like "omg", "lol" "atm" etc.

Personally, I don't use "catch the bus" (ctb), I use the actual term, which is: kill yourself, end your life, top yourself etc. I don't like using "ctb" - I think it's immature, and downplays what suicide really is.

Just my opinion. I don't really care if others hate me for this. I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way
