Discussion Reliability helium method/purity helium

I've been doing some research, and it seems that at least not all so-called 'balloon helium' is 100 % pure.
If sold contrary to data sheets, I don't know.

I'm not sure about the current state of affairs. Devices that measure purity of helium exist, and Industrial grade helium should be different.

Balloon helium is generally 80% helium and 20% oxygen now, probably because of the potential for injury from kids inhaling it to do the squeaky voice thing. That's why nitrogen is preferred now, because it has applications such as brewing beer and filling tyres. That said, I would feel nervous about being questioned about buying nitrogen. I think it's possible to order it online and have it delivered without providing a reason for buying, but I haven't ever tried to buy it, I've just browsed online catalogues and stuff.
