it's a really exasperating article

every SINGLE complaint in that article is from some pro-life Christian

What about people who don't believe that ending one's suffering is arbitrarily some evil sin leading to hell? Why do your religious beliefs need to dictate what every other fucking person does?

I agree with you as I'm not religious. I was more infuriated by how much she had to pay. Pegasos is making a killing (no pun intended) on vulnerable people.

W.t.f. it used to be 10k.

They said they can't accept me cos I have depression which sucks.

Whatever happened to their statement that they're hoping to offer REDUCED costs at some point for people who don't have money??

I don't really think they are making a killing.

It sounds like a lot but remember they have to pay customer service reps to filter incoming inquiries, administrative office staff, executive staff to run the actual business, nurses and doctors, maintain sterile medical facilities, purchase EHR software which is not cheap (I work for EHR company), acquire the drug which from what I understand is pretty expensive, provide supporting medications, perform the actual administration, deal with human remains, likely have lawyers on retainer and deal with constant lawsuits/legal issues, and various other miscellaneous expenses.

That 17k gets eaten up real quick.

The fact a person even has to pay for their death shows what a true "gift" life really is damn

That would be a jarring way to find out, but the mother could have informed her of her plans once she arrived in Switzerland instead of leaving it to Pegasos.

That would have likely left the daughter scrambling to try to get a Swiss court order before her mother committed suicide. Either the daughter gets one in time or is frustrated she was just slightly too slow. It would be agony either way. The mother did the sensible thing if she wanted to end things that way.

I think timed emails are a thing. Maybe she was old and didn't know technology.

I think they rationalize it by saying you shouldn't play god and take your own life. What they don't realize is, that with modern medicine, we play god every single day. Ok, stop playing god and let cancer take it's course then fuckheads.

Ahh whatever, logic is not their strong suit.
