• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

So I dont have a gun and I prob wont be able to get one since my diagnosis… so I had this idea to come to this shooting school and ask for one lesson and to be like "I wanna do this recreatively" and then do it there.
What is your advice on my idea?
I know I would traumatize a lot of people but at least my family wont find me at my home hanged.

I don't know what country you're in or the safety procedures in force there, however here in the UK the only shooting ranges generally available are for clay pigeon shooting. And you'll be accompanied by an instructor (closely) for the initial visits until they have evaluated your behaviour and stability.
I'd have imagined that there may be similar levels of supervision in most countries, though I just don't know.
I'd guess that if you fake a problem with the firearm the instructor will take it from you immediately, just in case of a negligent discharge or malfunction. They're not daft.

According to this[1]:
Background: Some shooting ranges have adopted policies to prevent suicides at their facilities. Little data have been available to guide them. Aim: We aimed to describe the incidence and characteristics of suicides at public shooting ranges. Method: We conducted text searches of 63,710 firearm suicides in the 16 states participating in the National Violent Death Reporting System from 2004 to 2015 to identify those occurring at public shooting ranges. Results: A total of 118 (or 0.18%) occurred at a shooting range, or 0.12 per million population. If that rate held for the nation as a whole, there would have been roughly 35 shooting range suicides per year during the study period. In total, 88% of decedents arrived alone. When gun ownership was noted, 86% of guns were rented from the range. In some cases, people drove to the range and took their lives in the parking lot with their own gun. Limitations: Our search strategy may have missed cases, and the data may not be nationally representative. Conclusion: Suicides at shooting ranges are rare. Policies that some ranges have adopted - such as allowing rentals only if the person is not alone - are responsive to the actual characteristics of these deaths and could potentially prevent most.

Not very successful apparently. If I had to guess, you'd be nervous the day you went there, the people there would probably notice and they'd send you home.

If you're in the US, it's disturbingly easy. You can show up, sign a waver, watch a safety video, and then have a gun in your hands in a matter of minutes. I would seriously consider going out this way too if I didn't have SN.

If you live in a country with sensible gun laws, your mileage will probably vary by a lot.

As soon as you start you always have someone to support you and help you. But if you keep buying ammunition and asking to change weapons, they end up getting tired because after 100/200 shots they have to look at the others too. I often remain alone. But I don't know what country you live in and what the rules are, it also depends on the range and the day. Sooner or later you will find yourself alone and you will have the opportunity.

This is a shooting range where a friend of mine goes and they never check pictures and no one sees you from the side. Whoever sees you with the video camera would not have time to act.

There's a lot that can go wrong with this method. And if it does go wrong you might face jail time. I personally would not recommend this as the success rate seems astronomically low and there's a hell of a lot of things to overcome. The risk seems to outweigh the reward but that's just me.

I would strongly reconsider. I've considered shooting myself at a shooting range before but I ultimately decided not to, obviously. there are a lot of shooting ranges that will watch you like a hawk specifically to avoid this sort of thing, and even if the place doesn't watch over you it would most likely be VERY traumatizing for the people working there to have someone kill themselves. Please don't do this to the people working there.
