Much can be gained from seeing oneself in motion rather than stuck in one place. The water aerobics class at the first part of your story was the introduction of movement. Some find an experiment or (toe in the water) enough of a start. Even if an experiment does not go well, another one can be attempted. Slowly momentum can build. By taking control of the momentum in life one can make oneself more like the person they would like to meet.
