Wondering what the best shotgun round is for a quick and painless suicide. I have the shotgun, its a Rock Island Meriva 12 Gauge 18.50.
My set date is in 3 months exactly. That will give enough time to sort out my current situation and make sure I leave on a good note.

Try exotic rounds
By design they are built for max lethality

If the criterion for choice is maximum effectiveness for a self-inflicted shot to the palate with a 12-gauge shotgun, the pure slug remains the most devastating and reliable option. A pure slug is a single heavy projectile that concentrates all its energy in one point, ensuring immediate and total cranial destruction, without dispersion or unforeseen variables.
The Super Buck 'n Slug contains both a slug and buckshot pellets. While the slug does significant damage, the pellets disperse, reducing the concentration of impact and making it less effective than a pure slug.
The Heavy Legion shells are layered rounds that combine a light armor-piercing slug, birdshot, and buckshot. This means that the first impact will come from the slug, but it will be followed by smaller projectiles, dispersing part of the total energy of the impact. Despite having very high kinetic energy, the dispersion of the charge makes the damage less concentrated compared to a pure slug, which could increase the risk of a non-immediate outcome.
The Kitchen Sink shells contain a mix of different types of projectiles, meaning the damage will be spread out rather than concentrated in a single critical impact, making them less effective than a pure slug.

Conclusion: If the goal is an immediate and fail-proof result, the pure slug remains the best choice. While the Heavy Legion shells are very powerful, they do not offer the same certainty as a classic slug due to their layered structure, which disperses energy across multiple levels.

Remember even a blank would probably kill you, in close range
But it's always best to be overkill as possible

Wouldn't the added spread of the pellets combined with the slug be much more devastating
Best of both worlds?

The combination of a slug and buckshot may seem more devastating in terms of overall damage, but the spread of the pellets reduces the concentration of energy on a single critical point. For a self-inflicted shot to the palate, the priority is not the total amount of damage but the certainty of immediacy and irreversibility. A single heavy slug ensures that all the energy is directed at a vital point without dispersion or unforeseen variables.

Overall damage would mean more tissue and such is destroyed, witch means more lethality, right?

Not necessarily. More overall damage means more tissue destruction, but it does not automatically guarantee immediate and certain lethality. The key issue is not the total amount of damage but the concentration of kinetic energy on a single vital point. If the energy is dispersed among multiple projectiles (such as a combination of a slug and buckshot), there is a risk that none will precisely hit the base of the skull or the critical brain area necessary for an instant outcome.
A single heavy projectile, like a magnum slug weighing 1 1/2 oz, has the advantage of transferring all its energy to one point, eliminating the risk of force being spread across less vital tissues. Additionally, a heavy slug has a more stable and predictable trajectory compared to a combination of shots that might deflect or fragment unpredictably.
So, more damage does not automatically mean more lethality if the damage is not concentrated at the key point for an immediate and irreversible effect.

I still think instant lethality remains 100% for each if we know birdshot or even less lethal ammunition could do the trick in contact range

Instant lethality is never 100% guaranteed, regardless of the type of ammunition, because it depends on the ability to precisely hit a critical vital area. At contact range, even less lethal ammunition can be effective, but the issue remains the distribution of kinetic energy. Hunting pellets or similar ammunition, despite having high initial energy, tend to disperse quickly even at close range. This means that the total kinetic energy is not entirely transferred to a specific point but spread across multiple micro-traumas, reducing the likelihood of an immediate shutdown of brain functions. In contrast, a single heavy projectile with high mass, such as a 1 1/2 oz slug, retains all its energy and transfers it to a single impact point, ensuring a greater probability of reaching the brainstem or other critical areas with an immediate and irreversible effect. However, it is true that in the absence of medical intervention, 100% lethality will still occur. The time required varies depending on the shot placement: if it does not immediately disrupt brain functions, massive bleeding will lead to unconsciousness within 30-90 seconds, with irreversible brain death in 3-5 minutes due to anoxia; if it involves major arteries (carotid or vertebral), arterial pressure collapses rapidly, leading to unconsciousness in 5-20 seconds, with death occurring within 1-3 minutes; if it hits the brainstem, lethality is instant or nearly so, with immediate cessation of vital functions. Therefore, it is not just a matter of ammunition power but the effectiveness of energy being concentrated on a single vital point. At contact range, hunting ammunition may be lethal over time, but its ability to guarantee an immediate outcome depends on the type of dispersion and the exact shot placement.

Wouldn't a shot behind the hard pallete pointed torward the Brain, no medical intervention basically guarantee death instantly?
Anyways I'll likely just follow these instructions
And if those ballistic dummy videos are correct I might have no head left regardless

I still think chance of instant death remains virtually guaranteed, too the point any concerns are largely imaginary and full of scrap
Even nose up, death would likely come just as quickly
Idk how anyone would survive that
(Btw thank you for your post it's very informative)
