Should I trust you?NO. I WROTE THIS FOR MYSELF.
  • Do your research.
Are the answers accurate and certain?NO.
  • It's a summary of research.
  • Answers are phrased as "YES/NO" for simplicity – nothing is 100% – and notes are important.

Cause of Death
Official"SN Poisoning"
  • Easily detectable, not much more to it.
How does it work exactly?
  • Blood cells do not carry oxygen, though lungs continue to supply it, and brain is still working.
  • Cells in body turn to anaerobic metabolism for a while and eventually die , after couple of hours .
  • SN also causes blood cell destruction, plus circulatory disorder (blood cannot flow to tissue).
What's the medical state? The body can be described as suffering:
  • hemolytic anemia, "blood failure", or
  • anemic hypoxia, "blood fails to deliver oxygen".

Tissue slowly dies, but not due to lack of oxygen in cells (like cyanide) or lungs (like suffocation), rather due to 'bad blood' . It shares similarities with CO poisoning .
Is it like suffocation?No.
  • Suffocation (hypoxic hypoxia) is a stressful experience, involving reflexes, pain, and rapid damage within minutes.
  • SN does not deprive oxygen from you body, but to individual cells within your body.
Will my brain continue to function?Yes.
  • Brain continues to function, even with 30% oxygen level. SN is a gradual slow process.
Will I feel death? No, if regime followed.
  • With low oxygen levels you faint and lose consciousness.
  • Brain goes into "sleep mode" – everything keeps working, but you fall asleep.

Recovery
Is SN fatal, even in small dosages?YES. DO NOT TRY OR TASTE IT.
Can I recover from SN?YES – with HOSPITAL CARE.
Can I recover on my own?NO.
What happens in recovery/hospital?
  • Methylene Blue is an antidote.
  • Minute dosage of it increases oxygen from fatal 20% to healthy 90% within 30-60m.
  • Patients regain consciousness within 2-8 hours; dissmissed after 1-3 days; unless kept for psychiatric evaluation.
  • Hospitals sometime follow further procedures, but these were not found to be crucial just supportive, may hasten recovery: Oxygen therapy, Ascorbic acid (MetHb elimination), Cimetidine (reduces hematotoxins).
Can I be rescued?YES.
  • Usually within 1-2 hours.
  • Sometimes up to 3-4h after ingestion.
Will I have permanent damage?NO* – You either die or recover
  • That is, dozens of cases with no evidence of damage.
  • Probably due to mode of action – slow cell/tissue death until total collapse. In the meantime everything is working.

Storage
PrimerSN acts much like table salt (NaCl) . SN is:
  • Hygroscopic – absorbs water .
  • Does not react with water but dissolves to ions , suspended between H20 molecules .
  • Dissolves readily . This is the solution .
  • Should not be heated . It is combustible .
Solid – can I open and close the bottle/bag?YES. Unless you're in a sauna ..
  • It does not oxidize with oxygen , only with water (that solution is potent)
  • Frequent exposure will damage it, but over time. Occasional won't.
  • Clamps are fine
  • Normal temperatures are fine . SN is transported in trucks/airplanes neither heated nor cooled .
  • SN storage warnings mention only high heat, reagents, pressure, and combustion.
  • That includes strong acids / bases / oxidizers . These may cause reaction .
Solution – will it go bad quickly?NO. Only after few hours.
  • Strong solution like ours (40%) is potent and durable . Weaker solutions will react to create nitrates (aquarium) .
  • Labs store 40% solution in room temperature, open and close it, so some oxygen is fine.
  • This is when 99% SN is needed . Pure 100%, required in delicate biochem tests (DNA), must be prepared freshly . But 99% is fine for us .
  • Labs use purified water and under sterile condition.
Solution – how long is it potent? At least several hours, if not more.
  • It has nothing to react with – but minute minerals, dirt, etc in drinking water .
Solution – should I refrigerate?No.
  • While labs store 40% solution, our water is "dirty", and we do not have sterile environment.
  • Cooling / heating may cause SN to change its behaviour . Just don't , it's fine as it is .
Too complicated!Simple:
  • Water solution – potent for few hours
  • Packed air-tight – few years
  • . . . Clumps, temporary exposure to air are ok
  • Air – few weeks
  • . . . Will lose potency, slowly

Doing research on SN can be quite difficult and complicated due to all kinds of information out there but with threads like these it should make it easier and one step closer if they're able to find them easily :)

@Brick In The Wall
Wrote myself a brief summary of AE, Benzo, Antacid
Much simpler, layman's terms, nothing new or detailed... helpful ?

Sample (rough draft; I may be wrong here) -

Acid-stuff
What they do:Stomach acidity
May help SN absorption
Stan wrote in detail
Do I need those? No. But many use these.
Considered helpful, widely-available, cause little harm.
Are they available?OTC / Internet
- 1. Antacids
What they do:Neutralizes acid on the spot
Known antacids:Milk of Magnesia.
Stan recommended any antacid with magnesium hydroxide. So look for ingredients.
Can I use other antacids?We don't know.
- 2. Acid-regulators
What they do:Unlike antacids they reduce acid creation beforehand
Which should I use?H2-receptor antagonists only
Known acid-regulators:Cimetidine/Tagamet, Rantidine/Zantac, Famotidine
Can I use other acid-regulators?No. May interfere with absorption.
- 3. Which of the typesEither is fine, whatever you want.
Can I use antacids and acid-regulators together? We don't know. Probably not.

Beautiful. For some of the acid regulators like Tagamet they're unfortunately restricted in the US at this time. You can update the OTC to limited on that. I'd also recommend against antacids and acid regulators in conjunction.

It's never good to mix more then you have to into the fray. Neither acid med is vital it merely helps the absorption process so definitely recommend against mixing.

Tagamet is taken off the shelves entirely in the US from my knowledge. It's not RX even. Could be different in different areas but I've done some research and it's largely banned in many states. Good updates though

This is incorrect. Products containing ranitidine (i.e. Zantac) have been recalled in the US. Tagamet (cimetidine) is readily available in any grocery store, drug store, Walmart (B&M and online), etc.

Plus didn't @Lotus say yesterday that there really weren't any aftereffects or damage, so that's incredibly helpful as well to know...

I realize everyone has a different physical reaction, bio chemistry, etc. so there's no SN guarantee if ctb,

but it is reassuring that doesn't seem to create any kind of permanent physical damage to those SN experiences for whatever reason, to fail or get 'saved'.

Quick Question about SN...

Based on what you've learned about us and, what do you think of someone making the mistake of not using Enough SN dosage for their body size and failure to ctb?

Basically, not enough to CTB, but they don't go to the hospital either

How likely do you think brain damage or other physical damage could occur?

typo "us and" = SN (Microphone dictation and I can't scroll all the way down for some reason to edit, sorry)

Storage. If you are not there yet but want some SN around put it in a dark air tight bottle, then the bottle in a zip lock bag and put it in the fridge. It should then last for years. Airtight, dark and cold will help preserve almost anything longer.

I appreciate this thread very much.

I wonder if SN is picky in terms of what kinds of containers can be used for storage. Is anything that can be closed tightly ok, or do some materials interact with it?

I would use glass, least reactive. adark brown jar, with an air tight top.

Amber glass air-tight refrigeration is a bit overdoing ;) Useful for 5+ years storage..We don't know much about it.

I think I have Antiemets+Meto+Benzo FAQ.
Would that be useful?
Should I publish in new thread for feedback?

For those asking if they can drink other liquids with SN, if you want to risk it being a failure, please go ahead. But if you don't want to fail, please only drink water.

Solid – should I refrigerate?No.
  • SN is not reactive (only to moisture, heat, strong acid/base)
  • In industry kept at room temperature for years – simple plastic container
  • Refrigerators have moisture – don't overdo it

Are you sure this is a good idea? Fridges are full of moisture. SN needs to be dry.

Answering @purplemoon more directly:
If only small amount digested can I recover from
ctb alone at home?
No.
This is extremely rare.
Does that answer question more clearly?
How would you phrase the question? :)

Answering this
Do you "fall asleep" due to hypoxia or sedatives?Either or both.
  • SN: faint around 15m , unconsciousness around 20-25m.
  • Benzo: taking several can knock out , in 15m-30m
  • So either / both
    • You may time things to be asleep when SN effects

:halo: Hi @Quarky00

thank you, I would be happy to phrase it a little differently, it's nice of you to help. How about this?

If a person takes large quantity of SN & nobody finds them, no hospital, no medical intervention… (no rescue, just fail)

But the person does NOT DIE...
Is it likely that they would suffer permanent damage?
