• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

  • Security update: At around 2:28AM EST, the site was labeled as malicious by Google erroneously, causing users to get a "Dangerous site" warning in most browsers. It appears that this was done by mistake and has been reversed by Google. It may take a few hours for you to stop seeing those warnings.

If you're still getting these warnings, please let a member of staff know.

Do you think social media has an effect on people's mental wellbeing?

Do you think social media has an influence on the amount of people ctb?

(I'm mean in a Japanese suicide craze 2008 kind of way)

I think so. Social media collates what it thinks is your personal interest and shoves everything related to it to you. If they think suicidal posts will keep you active, I don't see why they wouldn't just give you suicidal interests. But this is about the "echo chamber", and anxiety from news delivered in social media (such as that USA or the world is doomed from the Trump election) could tip you off…?

Absolutely. Social media has so many negative effects, like convincing you to constantly compare yourself to others, chase outwards appearances rather than inner satisfaction, develop addiction to others' attention and approval, and the way algorithms shuttle you into rabbit holes without you ever noticing. It warps your perception of yourself and society and is in no way a force for good. And ultimately the purpose of platforms like facebook or instagram that cause so much harm is so banal and boring as selling more ads.
