Venting SS site

Why was the SS site not accessible today from Australia for approx 8 hours?
Is this common?
Happened to me yesterday as well.
Just wondering if anyone else is having this daily problem from other countries too?
Or is it just an Aussie problem?

It was down for everyone. There are some sites where you can check whether a server is down for everyone or not.

For anyone who would feel isolated if this site were to go down permanently for any reason, as a backup, I recommend people exchange email addresses with at least one other person here, preferably two. It's generally advisable to create a gmail or similar anonymous email address, rather than use your normal one, for obvious reasons. You could use your screen name here if you wanted to be identifiable.

It's no good if two people just exchange emails in a reciprocal way. That won't work.

With a web of contacts in place, people here could re-group somewhere else if it came to that. It's surprising how quickly such a web of contacts would allow a group to reform.

I'm mentioning this not because I think that this forum will come down any time soon, but, you never really know about these things. Forums come and go all the time, even active ones set up "off shore".

Better to be safe, imo. Having a forum suddenly go dark can be terrible for people who are very involved with it.

You'll mostly get vague answers like, maintenance, upgrades, or blah blah blah which means nothing just be glad it's back up.
