• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

A centered world, according to David Kellogg Lewis, consists of (1) a possible world, (2) an agent in that world, and (3) a time in that world.

"The objective world simply is, it does not happen. Only to the gaze of my consciousness, crawling upward along the life line of my body, does a section of this world come to life as a fleeting image in space which continuously changes in time." — Hermann Weyl

"Forrest (2004) argues that although there exists a past, it is lifeless and inactive. Consciousness, as well as the flow of time, is not active within the past and can only occur at the boundary of the block universe in which the present exists."

The emphasis that some people put on longevity is ridiculous to me. People go to so much effort to hide the reality of ageing, the whole cosmetics industry basically relies on that and people who are nearing the ends of their lives are often kept in a limbo state, kept alive but unable to do anything. If I die naturally, I hope that it's quick and not drawn out. I think there are some non-western cultures that have a better attitude towards ageing. Maybe it would help if we had something like rites of passage to acknowledge the benefits of reaching different stages of life.

I found a lot of those Wikipedia articles difficult to read. I guess whether it's better to die young depends on individual circumstances.

One of the benefits is that we won't have to experience more suffering or risk it getting it significantly worse.

I agree with you, I don't think it is a matter of how long one lives, but rather how meaningful and fruitful their time in this existence is. If they are enjoying life and living well, then it wouldn't matter if they died earlier or later. However, if they are suffering and living through hell, with no reasonable, certainty that things will be good enough to warrant them to stay in this existence, then they should be able to check out without all the stigma and consequences.

One of the benefits is that we won't have to experience more suffering or risk it getting it significantly worse.
This is very true, and while (at the moment) I wouldn't want to die, I wouldn't mind if I died suddenly and quickly without suffering or lots of negative consequences.
