So, I have been researching partial hanging as a potential method, but I've been having a hard time telling if I'm doing everything right. I was able to find my carotid arteries just fine, and pressing them made the tiniest white spots show up in my vision, but nothing else despite how hard I was pressing and for how long.

That could've just been a fluke, though. Obviously just pressing down on it isn't going to make me lose consciousness, so I move onto practicing with a noose.

I used shoelaces, since I've seen other people on this site say that can work just for testing, and found some knots to try from this thread. I tried a few, and for each one placed it in different positions on my neck that were above my Adam's Apple, but each time it would either just hurt or there would be a horrible pressure in my head. I can't seem to compress my carotid arteries without also pressing on the jugular veins, which would be extremely uncomfortable and/or painful during an actual attempt. I still have a headache now from it.

There could be a few things wrong with what I'm doing. It's most likely that I didn't position the noose properly—but I can't find answers about what I'm doing wrong it that regards. And, no, I don't just want a simple 'put it under your jaw bone', or anything like that. I want stuff that will help. Am I supposed to be able to feel my pulse when I position the noise right? Does it have to be really tight or is it mainly the weight of my body/gravity that puts pressure on it? What kind of padding should I use?

another thing is the knot. I remember reading somewhere that different knots give different results, so which is best for partial hanging and to compress the carotid arteries?

Also, can you actually feel it when you only press your fingers against them? Because I barely had any symptoms of hypoxia all the times I tried. I was pressing down rather hard, and I made sure to try most places I could feel any sort of pulse.

Sorry for such a long question, I get carried away. Just want answers in as few posts as possible.

I'm a little tired, apologies if this comes off as blunt, but through hanging your goal isn't slow suffocation. I've read of autopsies performed on individuals who've hung themselves, they claw at their neck breaking the skin trying to free themselves in last minute regret. To be completely honest, if I were to go out in a hanging, I'd want my neck to break. If I was left suspended, fighting for however long it would take for myself to lose consciousness, it'd be the longest few minutes of my life. Frankly, no matter how bad life sucks that's not the way to go. Too many margines for error.

Then again, I don't really understand partial hanging and am probably getting this entirely wrong. If that's the case, pretend I'm not in the replies ;p

This means you are pressing only jugular, NOT carotid. That means you are aplying not enough pressure, carotid needs more pressure than jugular. (You cant compress carotid, without jugular because carotid needs more pressure. But dont worry, if they are both compressed, carotid compression will cause lose of concioussness so you wont feel pain after a few seconds, no headache)

You dont need padding. 10-12 mm rope is the best, also more comfortable than shoelace. Yes, the rope need to be really tight (your body will put pressure on the knot), slip knot or noose knot is best for this.

Can I ask which body position you used during your practice? It may be the reason why it didnt work, because some positions dont apply enough pressure/ bodyweight on the knot.
