  • Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

Hello I used to frequent this forum often but never the recovery section. I just stopped coming around when I tried to improve but I figured I'd give this a try as it may help now. Anyways I'm so close to getting approved for disability for my mental health but something happened today(family problems) and now I possibly won't have a place to stay in the next 2-3 months. Now with that being said my only options if that happens (which is likely) are to stay in a shelter while I wait on my case (which I really don't want to do cause they're awful in my city) or try to go back to work and hope it doesn't mess up my case which I also don't want to do. I feel very stuck right now and any advice or something could possibly help. I don't wanna mess this up by doing something I'd possibly regret.

My 1st question is are you in the U.S. I am Medicare and SS payments, and I can still work all I want as I am at full retirement age, so no penalty. If it was me, I would be very hesitant to work if you are close to getting approved for SS disability. Safe than sorry has always been my moto.

I looked at taking Social Security before my full retirement age and the percentage as too big for me to swallow and it was permeant for life, no deal.

Yes I'm in the US and also receive Medicare. I just know that if I go back to work it'll mess everything up but the homeless shelters in my city aren't safe at all. I wouldn't have any issue getting into one as I'm not dependent on substances it's just very bad in my area. Also I'm not 100% certain I'm gonna get approved either. This is my 2nd attempt applying but I know I've got a chance especially with my history at least from what I'm told from asking people about my case online. I just really don't wanna give up yet but I'm very implusive and being in the mindset I'm in I wanna make sure I'm thinking of all my potential options clearly.

I'm so sorry you're in this predicament. I have no magic answer to the where to live situation. However I'll throw out my 2 cents regarding disability. My experience is it took several months for them to approve me. It also took jumping alot of hoops to get thru it. I have mental health issues that now prevent me from working. I receive both SSDI and Medicare. I would be very concerned about them not approving you if you go back to work. If they see you're able to work they may view you as non-disabled. I wish I could help you. I hope your situation gets better. I really mean that.

I appreciate you taking the time to write this and I honestly think you're right about not going back to work. I only thought of that cause I'd need to save up money to get a place but I feel as though that's not the right choice right now. I'm hoping my situation gets better too I'm gonna try to stay positive even though my chest is aching right now from the obvious.
