• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

This is an interesting concept but pretty "far out" there (conspiracy territory)

I heard one of these conspiractor philosophers who is pro-life say that human intelligence can't be explained purely by evolution and that there was some genetic manipulation from aliens to make early homonids into humans by changing their genome.

The problem was that the early humans kept killing themselves. They were worse off than all other animals because they had they added layer of consciousness into their being so they either attempted suicide every minute as the meaningless of life was too strong.

So the alien overlords eventually decided to make humans feel bad about death of others and as a result shame others who wanted to kill themselves to "stabilize civilization" even though they knew there was no point.

Do you agree with this?

Dont read too much into what pro-lifers say.

98% of our DNA is shared with other primates, and if you look back at early human history, it wasn't even 30,000 years ago we were using stone tools. Where we at and what we is normal trajectory for evolutionary progress. Our emotions are evolutionary tools that many other primates share.

Any alien race came to this planet they would have either blown it up, or ran the fuck away after observing us for a day or two.

Grief is natural, real and very powerful. The pain of genuine grief is so intense and acute that it can cause, rather than prevent, ctb - if it IS some kind of AI type program inserted by aliens, it's not a particularly well-designed one.

But if it's natural then why don't some terrorists feel it when their friends die?

Because the grief is over-ridden by the sense of nobility attributed to the cause. This doesn't mean nobody feels, or experiences, grief in these circumstances.

Mankind has simply over-evolved beyond what is necessary for us, as a species, to simply survive and procreate. Early man had little concept of death, did not have the concept of time, did not live within an organised and structured society. Our evolution from being creatures of instinct to being creatures of high-consciousness is the greatest contributor to ctb, certainly more so than some emotion implanted by, er, aliens. We are social animals, we thrive by cooperation and bonds, grief is 100% a natural emotion.

Many animal species do grieve over the loss of their family members and in the case of cats and dogs over the loss of their human companions.

Grief and the desire to "keep everyone alive" is built into the human animal. We evolved to stick together.

In Paleolithic times where populations were low and mortality rates were high, if one member of a tribe died, it could spell disaster for the whole clan. Especially if the member was an "alpha" or a fertile woman. There where strength in numbers as well. Kept them safe from predators and allowed them to efficiently hunt in packs. People needed other people alive in order to survive.

The way I see it, these primitive instincts are still just as strong today in modern humans as they were 10,000 years ago despite them no longer being needed in a world of 7 billion people. Pro-lifers are living off of an evolutionary coding of a bygone era.

The "higher" social animals appear to experience grief: cats, dogs, primates, elephants, and so on. So no, I disagree.
