I noticed I grab and hold my throat/neck(like the front of it where the adam apple is) a lot whenever I'm dissociating, zoning out or particularly extremely depressed; it also happens when I'm thinking deeply on depressing topics, not really sure why. I only just realised after noticing this that even in my past mental breakdowns I always seem to start to even strangle myself until it's over, why is that??

Do you guys have weird habits like that during below baseline moments or is this uncommon?

We all have a habit
Don't think it's weird. In your case it's a way to deal with your emotional pain
There are people who chew pencils, pull their hair, bite their lips, etc

I actually have the same habit when my mental health is trash. I'll even sleep holding my neck. After a bit of online research, I gathered that it's an anxiety response. You're protecting one of the most vulnerable parts of your body, your neck.

I often start rubbing some random part of my body in circles for some reason

Is there a particular pattern to it or just something you'd randomly do??
When I'm dissociating or zoning out, I zone back in and realize I am rubbing myself like how you would rub a cat. Maybe it's a ways of trying to soothe myself subconsciously, I don't actually know

I pinch the top of my nose- just under the brow- kind of in to the eye sockets when I'm stressed. I think I read once it was supposed to relieve tension and, found myself doing it ever since. I find it weirdly comforting.

Oh! I used to know someone who'd do that whenever we studied together, it's cool to know that it actually is a reliever😞 yours seem much more cooler than mine

Ha ha. Not so sure it's cool. I doubt I'd do it in public.

For me it's going mute and not noticing. I'll think something has been said but nothing has been said from me for hours. When I spiral though it lasts way too long for comfort

I stroke my top lip where my moustache should be (I have been trying to grow one for 40 years but alas, I am not mature enough for whiskers)
