Does anyone have any research literature or even just your own personal thoughts on what happens to people who take their own lives if we were living (hypothetical speaking……. possibly) in an infinite universe?

EDIT: I think I read somewhere that Buddhists believe that when you suicide, you continue to do the same thing (kill yourself) over and over again in every life. PLEASE correct me if this is not accurate. I hope this is NOT accurate!

I agree. Being born into a 3rd world country or having to live really any life that feels so much pain and suffering scares me. I just don't want to be born again.

We're all the same consciousness but we are parcelled into our singular subjectivities. I am the same as you, the same as a kid in Palestine, the same as Emperor Nero and Marilyn Monroe and everyone who has ever lived. What I feel as the subjective "me" is just a series of events and conditions converging to produce this combination of cells, brain matter, brain function and therefore consciousness and self-perception, which is the same as us all. When these conditions no longer coalesce e.g. if I stop the oxygen going to my brain through committing suicide by some method or other, the brain matter will die, the brain function will stop, and there will be nothing left to have consciousness. This is happening literally all the time. As is the production of new clumps of cells which will form new "selves". Even though we are all experiencing the same consciousness and we are all fragments of reality/the universe perceiving itself, there cannot be any link between this life/consciousness/self that I perceive to be "mine" and any other consciousness such as "yours" or "a future person's" because it is localised to my cells and their functions. When the cells die, there is nothing. So there cannot be conscious reincarnation or afterlife. Before this clump of cells came out of the union of sperm and egg and developed sufficiently to become conscious, there was nothing, and after the clump of cells dies there will also be nothing. The only thing is that people keep reproducing so there are countless iterations of this happening over and over again. I guess that could be called cyclical, but it's also linear as time does seem to exist and move in one direction and so someone born after me cannot exist before me in time.

The mystery to me is how anything came to be in the first place, how is there life, how is there anything at all?

I absolutely love this! Please excuse my ignorance in this as I'm just now discovering this topic of a "we are all one in an infinite universe" mentality. This absolutely fascinates me! I just have so many questions because trying to wrap my head around all this feels so very confusing to me! I'm trying so hard to fully grasp and understand this. So if a person takes their life in a world where we are all one, does that person gain consciousness again in another life? Will that person experience pain and suffering all over again? It goes into detail on a state we enter shortly after death and guidance on how to liberate soul to return to unity or eternal peace, as opposed to getting weighed down by all the past lives, sensory desires and mind filters and reincarnating again.

There seems to be some scientific facts in an infinite universe as well. So if you end your life in an infinite universe, are you going to start to feel a different kind of pain in another body after this body dies? But I also believe the universe, the god or our soul have an infinite compassion and whatever follows is going to be to our benefit, no matter what decision we make. I believe everything and everyone is ultimately on our side, as heartbreaking as this existence can be. There's this concept circling around Internet, stating that we are just Universe experiencing itself, some people on here also elaborated on that so I refer to them. And in that sense, if we are here to simply experience everything, every emotion, every scenario, every relationship, while in our limited bodies and minds, playing our part in a play, catching the bus is just another thing on the list. To cross, to experience, to observe and then let go. Because none of that matters in the end. And yet it matters so much.

So what happens if we suicide instead of die of a more natural cause. Is there a difference in the way we die that affects the way we live in our next life???

I can never really get my head around reincarnation. Not in terms of retaining enough of 'ourselves' to be consideted the same person. Just from basic maths really. If the earth's time span up to this moment were condensed into 24 hours, proportionally speaking- humans would only have been around for 1 or 2 seconds! Prior to that- what were our 'souls' up to? Did they inhabit dinosaurs or, did we originate from other planets?

Also, what's the end goal? For any religion really. If we're sent here to learn and grow. What for?

No one knows what happens on the other side, we can all just take some wild guesses, but I believe there's some truth in everyone's beliefs. If we're all just one, then it makes perfect sense. Just need to go around, ask the whole world and than patch those answers together somehow

I sometimes imagine this concept of oneness, or so called God as the game "The Sims". At least the way I play it. I create all these different characters, with different looks and personalities, spend hours on designing their features, their behaviour, their homes and aspirations, and then play with them and make them interact, while also making them "stay in character"(sometimes adding some plot twists )
Yet all of these sims are just one person, me, a gamer, playing them

"I believe that everyone and everything is on our side". I want to believe this so badly, but I feel like there is too much suffering in this world. I don't necessarily believe that the Universe or god is evil or out to hurt us, it just feels like it doesn't care. There's definitely joy in life, but to me anyway, the pain isn't worth the joy. What would be the end goal of an egg universe? What do you think happens after we all reach full maturity?

In the story, "The Egg," I think there's some type of insinuation that the main character will become divine in some way after finishing the life of every human that has ever lived, but I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly. A sort of "enlightenment" story whereby we're undergoing a transformation to become godlike.

I don't have all the answers either. There's an essential concept called "non -dualism" which might be good for you to research. Basically, I am you and you are me, but also at the same time you are just you and I am just me. It's both at the same time. Because I can never have your or anyone else's experience, I can only have my own. But we have the same essence of "me-ness"/self. It's hard to talk about in language

Which means that yes, "something" is reborn, but it's not "you". It has the same essential quality as you, which is universal consciousness/buddha nature/"big self", which means it is "you", but not the "you" that you know as yourself. The "you" that has suffered in this life will just be gone. I obviously have no way of knowing for sure if this is true, but I know it feels true to me and correlates to Eastern philosophy and current research in neuroscience.

There seem to be a lot of very deep thinkers on this site… I absolutely love it!! Some of these relays are so interesting and informative!

I am literally on the fence when it comes to this, but I'm SO CURIOUS if there's a difference in the way we die, if that affects the way we live out our next life (assuming an infinite universe is true).

I feel like it's one of these three now:

1. We die and fall into eternal nothingness (like a forever, dreamless sleep) until entropy hits and kills everything else in the universe). I'm fascinated with learning about entropy, though kind of hard for me to understand, but kind of what DarkOver was talking about).

2. The Simulation Theory.

3. The Egg Theory or an Infinite Universe (Can/do these co-exist?

Some of this stuff absolutely terrifies me!

#1 doesn't seem too bad. I'm OK with being in a state of a forever, dreamless sleep.

#2 scares me because if aliens were controlling us, then they are absolutely CRUEL creatures!!!!

#3 scares me because I know many people have worse lives than the one I'm living and I selfishly do NOT want to experience their life or any more pain and suffering.

I really appreciate seeing and learning from so many deep thinkers on this site!! Just LOVE YOU GUYS!!!
