Like, why do people go lengths to waste their time on exercising, which is often painful, and restricting their food intake just to live 8 years more or something? I get that someone might like hiking or weightlifting as a hobby in and of itself, but why waste so much time and pain on it just for longevity? Like that Bryan Johnson guy or whatever. Nobody is going to live forever that way anyway. I used to be into health and diet, but only as a way to avoid getting cancers for which the treatments seem worse than the disease. Because I knew if ever I got cancer my family would pressure me into taking the treatments just survive despite there being permanent side effects lowering quality of life. But now I don't care about avoiding heart disease or cancer because I would just refuse treatment or use it as a more acceptable excuse to ctb.

I feel this 💯

When I was younger, I used to be very into health and fitness. To the point where I became an instructor working/teaching classes at gyms and studios. I also mostly ate a healthy diet (went from vegetarian, paleo, keto, anti-inflammatory, etc.). Consumed healthy supplements & vitamins, etc.

And I learned in the end, it doesn't matter. You can do everything right, and it doesn't matter. I ended up still becoming chronically ill and disabled. It's so stupid. I worked hard in my youth doing XYZ thinking it will keep me healthy and pain free, but it didn't.

Now I'm over here wanting to kill myself over my illnesses and disabilities, and I think to myself everyday, "If I was diagnosed with a terminal illness, it would be my way out." Like you, I wouldn't seek treatment, idgaf what anyone else in my life says. Or I'll use it as an excuse to end it all. My body, my choice.

Maybe they feel better day to day feeling healthier. To be honest, I've done myself no favours by stopping exercise and letting my weight balloon. I feel like shit. Work is harder because I have less energy to do it. I know I need to get back into it again. Even a small amount- to feel better but, I just don't feel like I want to face it right now.

They might also not be doing it for a long lifespan. Some 'healthy' people still do other unhealthy things- eg. smoke and drink to excess. They may be doing it to remain attractive.

People that "get into" health usually do so to sublimate some psychological process. A hyper competitive person will view being the "heathiest" as a goal but it's driven by vanity. Or living the longest is viewed as "winning" a race. That's what I thin is going on with public heath nuts and longevity gurus.

As a depressed person when I stumbled upon being heathy as a lifestyle it was a great outlet at first but I eventually food and supplements can't fix trauma of family problems.

I have seen little rhyme or reason why some of my family lived into old age with very bad habits yet some with better habits died younger.

I think riding oneself of toxic people is more important than diet. I'd rather eat a little junk food with people that love me than the heathiest food with miserable people.

When scientists talk about the "Mediterranean diet" and longevity they fail to consider the interpersonal customs. People there don't go around thinking "I'm eating heathy today". They have a robust farming and cooking culture centered around enjoying each other's company when eating.

If you live long enough, you often don't have much of a choice but to shape up. If you never exercise and eat nothing but crap you'll feel terrible day to day before too long. You can typically get away with it without any real repercussions in your twenties, but as you age, things really start wearing down. So it inevitably becomes more of a quality of life issue than anything else, I think.

Granted I don't see the point of living to 92 instead of say 85, but a lot of people do fear death and will do everything they can to stave it off.

I just exercise sometimes for the dopamine, I don't want to live a long time so could care less about that

Cause the normies don't wanna die, they fear death, it's this incoming personal apocalpyse that they have to face eventually. They know it's happening and there's nothing they can do to stop it so they try everything in their power to delay it.
