Stage 1: Genuine joy.
A new life is born. You love your parents and siblings if you have them, you smile frequently, you are eager to discover more of the world. Sometimes something out of the ordinary happens with your peers or with adults, but it is stored as a quirky anecdote.
Stage 2: Fake it til you make it, or The Smirking man
Something is troubling you in your teens, but there´s not a clear indication of what is it, and you feel like even though you are different, there's a future ahead. Perhaps a group of friends you hung out with for years suddenly announces you are not welcome, perhaps the first girlfriend you agonizingly managed to acquire openly despises and discards you, perhaps you do some petty criminal offenses and get into trouble with the law, perhaps you become addicted to videogames...
Stage 3: Dawning on you
You start to really notice that something is wrong with the world, but moreso it seems that whatever that's wrong, isn't wrong for the vast majority of people. Is it you that carry this wrongness within you then? Why can't you do what is effortless to people that are supposedly less intelligent, less creative or less idealistic than you?
Stage 4: Rebellion and anger
You are resentful and frustrated. Every day, every hour, every year, you face an extraordinary weight on your shoulders. There is scarce peace. There's scarce joy. You are angry, simply because you want to live but you also don't want to live like this. But you can't be someone else. You were thrown into the world with a similar set of needs as everyone else, but you have an added burden that makes satiating those needs almost impossible, and your unfulfilled desires will torment you.
Stage 5: Melancholic acceptance
It's been a long time since you started noticing that you were unhappy. At this point you have become familiar with what is plaguing you, and even though you might know how to avoid getting destroyed by it, most of your energies are spent with that, so your life outside of the struggle isn't very expansive or satisfying. A certain shade of pain will now reside permanently in your gaze.
