In 1964 (60 years ago):
The Civil Rights act was passed after a 2 month filibuster, causing widespread unrest
Segregation was everywhere, and job opportunities for black people were limited
2 US ships were attacked by North Vietnamese torpedo boats in the Gulf of Tonkin, marking the beginning of the US' involvement in Vietnam
Only 2 years had passed since the cuban missile crisis
Calling yourself a socialist was social suicide
Women were socially expected to primarily care for children
Women had limited career opportunities
Banks could require a Woman to have a husband, and for that husband to cosign if they wanted a credit card
Feminist movements themselves were widely segregated
LGBTQ people were on the far fringes of society or were required to conform
Most common people thought of LGBTQ people as mentally ill, while to a few nationalists they were communist sympathizers
Marriage, Church, and the nuclear family were all sacred institutions expected to be upheld universally
Today much of that has changed drastically from what it was. How do you think our society, social norms, and political discourse will change from now in 2024 to 60 years from now in 2084?
