They do something weird but don't make you feel good, and there's pretty much no withdrawal symptoms. Basically pointless unless that "something" somehow makes you build yourself better life.

Stuff like heroin feels nice to take but equally un-nice to stop taking. So unless you constantly increase your dose it won't help either, but if you do, you'll eventually die from overdose. (Or run out of money before dying and will get the most unpleasant come down, maybe even die of withdrawal).

Actually, SSRI's do have withdrawal symptoms.

At least for me fluoxetine (SSRI) helped with my anxiety. I have been on a lot of psychiatric drugs, and i dont know if im lucky but never experienced withdrawal symptoms. Guess everybody reacts differently. I dont have experience with recreational drugs though

Well one key difference is that I can't go into respiratory failure off my SSRI, that's kind of a biggie for me.

SSRI's (fluoextine) are mood stabilizers, so they basically reduce the range of your emotions, and overall numb your feelings. That was my experience.

With recreational drugs like this, keeping your tolerance to a minimum as much as possible is key.

Of course,I'm aware that's a whole lot easier said than done, but based on what I've read on harm reduction forums,it would seem that this is a fundamental towards preventing(or at least postponing. anyone who is doing hard drugs on a long-term basis is playing a dangerous game)addiction and almost all problems associated with hard drug use.

I think in the vast majority of cases(I'm aware that in some cases, chronic depression results from genes/bad chemical make-up.),the real problem is that the patient is living a stressful and unsatisfying lifestyle. the SSRI is merely a band-aid at best. of course, sadly we don't live in a perfect world(otherwise we wouldn't even be talking on this forum)and so the patient doesn't really have all that much of a choice in many circumstances.
