What's the most introvert thing you ever did?

What's the most introvert thing you ever did? Maybe if we share these experiences it will help us feel less alone with them.

I'll start:

After about one year of therapy, I did not have new things to tell my therapist each week. So he concluded we could see each other only once every two weeks. I "agreed", even though many of the problems for which I had started seeing him were still there, but I just felt unable to express them properly since I thought "he knows about those". Should have been a bit more whiny about them, I guess. One month later I went into three weeks of sick leave due to stress, and then we went back to therapy once per week.

How about you? What was the most introvert thing you did? How do you feel about it now?

I turned down a fair few social things that I actually wanted to do because of social anxiety.

I'm usually very uncomfortable eating around others. Occasionally, work places have sprung meals on us. Once I felt so sick and uncomfortable that I just sat there eating nothing which ironically just drew more attention to myself.

In terms of potentially damaging things, there was one (likely narcissistic) person in childhood I would do anything to avoid. I passed on the chance of learning a musical instrument, passed on school trips. I didn't even go in to see my exam results in order to avoid them. (They were the reason I developed ideation to begin with.)

I'm not really sure if I do regret it looking back. I guess more, I wish I'd never picked up such extreme anxieties to begin with. Plus, obviously I wish I'd never been in contact with the (suspected) narcissist. Really though- from the social things I did participate in- I'm not sure it would have helped me to do those things. I doubt I would have enjoyed them and I suspect that would only have intensified my social anxiety. Plus- this (suspected) narcissist was brutal. They likely would have made those times hell had I participated.

For my high school Junior Prom in 2011, I was nearly forced to go by my friends but joke's on them, even while I was there I spent almost the whole time playing Pokémon White.

The most introverted thing I've done is not making a single friend during high school. That streak is still going if you don't count internet friends.

Okay, I have something. Maybe it's not the most introverted thing I have ever done, and it's not really introversion, it's social anxiety, but:

I have gone several times to get-togethers with other people I knew and left immediately, after a couple minutes. Like, I prepare myself, I catch the bus (the normal one lol) and after 30 minutes, I arrive early, I'm the first one to arrive. Then the rest of them arrive and less than 5 minutes later, I say goodbye and I return home.

Going out for dinner alone, ran into people I knew, maneuvered away from the scene by pretending I had somewhere to be and ended up eating takeouts outside by the trash can.

Going to the theater alone, it was dreadfully peaceful.

The first of only two nights I ever went to a night club, I slept through it. I still don't know how I managed to do that in all that smoke filled deafening chaos.

I went to a furry meetup, talked to someone in a costume, stood around for another five minutes, and left. My friend was shocked by me afterward. I'm ashamed.

Climbed through my kitchen window because I needed to go somewhere but my landlord at the time was in the shared laundry room and I didn't want or have the energy to have to engage in small talk on the way out.

Spring the pandemic, I basically used it as an excuse to stay indoors all the time. I barely went outside and it was to the point where my mom would try to persuade me to go to the grocery store with her because of how much time I spent indoors. This was also when I started to reduce the amount of social interactions I had down to just my family (not that I was much of a social butterfly prior). When my dad came to meet with us to go shopping for something to wear for my high school graduation one of the first things he said to me was that I looked really pale.

Social anxiety =/= introversion. Social anxiety is a type of mental illness while introversion is a type of personality trait that is commonly used to describe those who lack most traits associated with extraversion. You can have social anxiety and be extroverted or anywhere in between.

My coworkers came into my office with a birthday cake and sang happy birthday. While they were cutting and serving the cake I said I was going out for a quick smoke and never came back

A few years ago I told my partner I do not want to me new people or make new friends or have people over or go visit anyone. He is free to do any and all of that but not me.

One time on new years I got dressed up and drove around for like 6 hours so my roommates wouldn't realize I actually had no plans.

Another time at a birthday party at a club where I knew almost no one I literally stood in one place for hours not talking to a single person.
