  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Lots of ppl on here say "will you watch if I kill myself on stream" but I don't think one person has someone actually gone through with what they say they'll stream.

Maybe it's a cry for help? Could even be a moment of attention seeking, which is another form of crying for help. It's similar to when people say that they'll kill themselves if x happens. Maybe they want validation, for someone to say no, don't do it, or something or that nature.

I've gotten random DM invites in the past. I would ignore it or report it if you feel like they could be breaking site rules in some other way, as recording in itself isn't a rule, but it's not exactly easy to do since most platforms have live internal moderation, which would pull the stream (facebook, discord etc) down pretty quick. I agree with the person upthread, this could play a part. I think some people just want attention, no matter the form, and there are plenty of people here who may covertly be looking for those people who do want to stream it. Considering where these things end up (in the hands of gross people online) most of the time, I don't know how much I agree with the concept at this point, esp if its a method we have plenty of video documentation of (FSH, etc) — SN is an outlier here but we've only had one or two people actually have videos make it to the forum re SN.

edited to add: this is NOT encouraging anyone to livestream an sn attempt. but I have a mild understanding of why someone would. we mainly rely on written accounts to understand what fully happens to the body with this method, and some people really want or need a visual and it's not always for gross reasons. this isn't necessarily in support of this stuff whatsoever. just trying to see both sides.

There's at least 2 stories of people in the past killing themselves on stream (I forgot their names but it's a woman jumping off a building and a boy shooting himself in the head) and they've achieved some sort of infamy so I guess these people who say that want to be known for something regardless if it's good or not. I assume these kinds of people probably feel like wastes of time and want to achieve something and so they pick their death as a way to do so but back out as it takes a certain kind of confidence to go through with something like that.

People are also morbidly curious and recognise others on here so I guess it's also nice seeing peoples' last moments if they're like that.
