The system we currently have is overdue for a collapse. The greedy people at the top have to know that. The easiest way to keep your power is to throw peanuts to the masses "below" you to appease them. IF something isn't done soon... in a couple of generations it will all collapse or end in revolt... and revolt never goes well for the greedy people at the top. Even if the next leadership is just as bad ultimately... the current crop of greedy folk always get punished in the revolt.
Correct. I agree. But the problem is that wealth, greed, and power especially make these people "forget" and not learn from the past. Right now, they don't care. They just want more wealth. Being worth $32B is not enough. They want to be worth $132B. When they achieve that, it still won't be enough. Then they will turn into "Elon Musk" and cozy up to whoever is in power so they can have a slice of the pie.
They forget how revolutions end. Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

UBI will be a necessary evil - especially with AI automating a lot of jobs. However, what's that old adage that when you take money from the king, you become the king's property? UBI will come with a lot of strings attached where it will be impossible to wean off of it. You will forever be property of the government. This will create a permanent underclass or a caste system with the vast majority at the bottom, relying on the government. We have welfare programs in this country and a lot of people are on welfare forever. They can't escape the cycle of poverty.
The government will find a way to make its citizens more dependent on it, thereby enslaving us. The only way out is some kind of civil war where the country (the US) fractures or balkanizes.
Another thing people need to realize is that no matter who gets voted, they represent corporate and billionaire interests. I think that right now our society is so polarized but this will be the issue that brings us back together. It will be "us" versus "the billionaire class". Zohran Mamdani in NYC is expected to win. Other places have been voting in democratic socialists and it's because to them, they represent an option other than corporations and billionaires. Someone else said here that we have easier problems to solve that never get solved. That was 100% spot on. Affordable housing is a big issue. It is insane that in a terrible neighborhood, you cannot buy a condo for less than $500K. A small house costs around $1M. If you live far away or in a rural area, you'll pay less but then you won't have access to well paying jobs (or any job). Corporations own a lot of the real estate and it's closed off a lot of people from the opportunity to be homeowners.
None of this is sustainable. The billionaire class is too drunk on power to realize they will be "French revolutionized" or "Tsared".
