• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

Trials are underway from a company called Inner Cosmos to treat depression using a brain implant. Elon Musk's Neuralink is starting similar trials in 6 months. Would you risk using a brain implant?

I would rather be depressed. There is no way that I would implant a chip in my head that would send electrical impulses to my brain. Its too risky. Who knows what kind of side effects/ damage it could cause? There is still too much they don't understand about depression and how the brain works to take that risk.

Absolutely not, I do not trust the idea of putting chips in my brain at all, it sounds almost dystopian. I wish I wasn't depressed, but I think I'll try my chances at meeting a wizard one day to magic it away

I disagree with using technology like that on my body.

Only if it comes with a kill-switch that I can use to blow my head up. Hopefully that's painless enough but maybe the chip could also be used to nullify all forms of pain so people could truly carry out whatever method is most convenient for them. That's probably not a feature these chips would have if they were real but it would be nice…

Technology has already ruined us enough imo. At least addiction to it. It's done more harm than good in my life, but that's my fault.

I'd do it. Shit, I've swallowed largely-useless and often-dangerous chemicals for over 30 years, all on the word of pharma-beholden professionals peddling a discredited "chemical imbalance" theory. Letting Elon Musk put a zapper in my head would be one of the less stupid things I've done.

No

since it reminds me/immediately made me think of the film Spiderhead (2022) and the film The Circle (2017)

or the beginnings of a Ray Bradbury story or maybe Kurt Vonnegut for example the story Harrison Bergeron

Why did I guess this was from Elon Musk? I'm not convinced I am depressed to be honest for a start. Maybe if I felt utterly desperate all the time, I would consider it but, I don't really trust any of these mind altering things- including drugs. I don't think they know enough about the brain to really know what they're doing.

Plus, I suppose I resent what I feel it's ultimately all about. I'm not convinced it's all altruistic to make us all happy. I think it's more about making us more productive. Zombies basically. So we make more money for people like him.

Thanks but, no. I think I'd rather be cynical and depressed about how shitty this world is rather than be happy about how I and the majority of others are being exploited in it... 'You want me to work overtime for no extra money'- sounds good to me! 'You're cutting my holiday allowance?' Awesome! 'There's no money for a rise this year?' Nevermind. I can cope with anything you throw at me and be just fine.

Thanks but- I've no interest in becoming even more of a mindless drone. Negative thoughts and emotions are there for a reason... to tell us there's something wrong in our lives. Yes, it's shitty when it doesn't let up but- is this really the answer? Ignore the causes of people becoming depressed- the lifestyles we lead and just get everyone to 'suck it up' with a smile on their face?

It makes sense economically. It makes sense for capitalists like Elon Musk. We are products for people like him and- a lot of us are 'faulty' if we are depressed and don't want to work, so can't buy shit his companies make.

I don't think it's good long term though. Diabetics are at real risk of developing problems with their feet because, they lose feeling. So- they can injure themselves and not feel the pain and the problem can be left and develop further. I don't know just how much emotional pain these chips will block out but I don't know, just seems like a way to make people more docile to how badly the world treats them.

No, the fact of the trial being in it's early stages would not make me comfortable. Trying to cure one problem could land me with furthermore problems. Like most decisions in my life.

A brain implant to treat depression - it'd be better to eliminate the triggers that cause depression in nowadays societies long before people are becoming chronically depressed. There might be use for it for some kind of depression that is not caused by external circumstances.

I wouldn't try a brain implant. Never.
