An update on the OFCOM situation: As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. OFCOM, the UK’s communications regulator, has singled out our community, demanding compliance with their Online Safety Act despite our minimal UK presence. This is a blatant overreach, and they have been sending letters pressuring us to comply with their censorship agenda.
Our platform is already blocked by many UK ISPs, yet they continue their attempts to stifle free speech. Standing up to this kind of regulatory overreach requires lots of resources to maintain our infrastructure and fight back against these unjust demands. If you value our community and want to support us during this time, we would greatly appreciate any and all donations.
Did something happen to the resource compilation thread? If I go to this link it says the requested thread could not be found. Sorry if this was already addressed somewhere else, but I'm a bit out of the loop since I've mostly just checked OffTopic the last couple years.
I made the entire forum private to shield members from the judgemental and exhibitionary behavior of the public eye. That means only registered members can access the forum at the moment. This is a temporary(!) decision to address some concerns of the community. This forum contains deeply personal and intimate discussions and I understand that the current amount of public attention makes people feel uncomfortable to post anything. I'd like to hear your input about this change.
It was hard to find you because of this, but I did and I am here now. Though it was hard to find, I thank you for the privacy, with my thoughts, with my pain, with this forum.

If tptb decide they can benefit by vilifying this site to serve a more important and immediate agenda than euthanasia, such as controlling the internet to stifle the free thought that enables people to identify their self-centered supremacist treachery and the nefarious relationship they've had with the rest of humanity, then this site will be collateral damage in their pursuit of global hegemony over all nations. I support keeping it private as a default and finding creative ways to temporarily increase visibility for new people on occasion, if that's possible.

Yea I was kinda on the fence about this but now given the situation I wish this would stay permanent. For example in the Daily podcast the people who wrote the paper and doxxed the admins said they were digging for info about them for months. And hell they still found Marquis and Serge even though they are tech nuts who knows all about hiding their digital trail. They found one of them living in Uruguay of all places. My point being is what's to say it won't happen again? This will not die down especially given the Interpol situation also.
It seems like they were obsessed with them because they could make them out to be monsters because of the other sites they ran…. but they also had nothing at all until that hack. It wasn't from anything on this forum. I don't disagree though about keeping it private. At least part of it should be.
Honestly I'm leaning towards the party of leaving the site the way it is now, with only registered members being allowed to see the full site. I know this won't prevent people who want to tear this site down from still trying to do so, but I think the less is seeable for the Public the better. I don't know if SS still has a Twitter handle but I thought being so open in such a toxic domain like Twitter was just a bad idea overall, inviting even more conflict. Of course this isn't my call nor do I want it to be so I leave it up to you @RainAndSadness we have your full support no matter what.
Same here. Yes, there will still be accounts that join for the wrong reasons but it will filter a lot of people who do not want to put the effort forth to create an account.

NYT is one of the largest and most read papers in the US, if not the world. You can assume at a minimum hundreds of thousands and at a maximum, millions.
They also used this story on their daily podcast, The Daily (how I originally heard it). The Daily picks an issue/news story a day and focuses an entire episode on just that one issue.
I think you should private it for now to allow the shelter that people in mental distress deserve. It's very probable that the 'trolls' are not truly anti-suicide but are out to encourage it.

Everywhere. It doesn't matter whether you're here or there or what platform a person might use, people will always be SNOOPY, INVASIVE, CRUEL, and FUCKED UP.
They don't accept any random person.
If the others have made their private, let's do the same, I've learned about this site from a lady on FB at the time, cause all my posts weren't accepted. She PM me and say try SS. Left that FB group immediately.

I thought about your post for a long time. I also worried about that. I am scared and paranoid about my privacy.
Though I think the only reason why they could trace the both founders was the hack. I think the NYT even admitted that in the article. Without the hack of (I don't know exactly what was hacked) they could not have found out about it.
Okay now when I am thinking about it. Maybe the NYT did not admit it but in the article of unherd.com they exactly said that.
I have found it. source: unherd.com
The Times' investigation hinged on sheer luck, in the form of a massive leak of confidential registration documents obtained through EpikFail, a hack of a company that had previously provided hosting for the website. Using such information in reporting is legally protected given it is "in the public interest."

In the public interest ? Its NOT in the public interest its in THEIR interest so they shouldnt come round sayin its for public interest when really its for their own selfish needs !!! Bunch of lousy asshats i sincerely hope that one day karma will come back to hunt the fuck out of them !! Marquis and Serge didnt deserve ANY of this shit !!
As a newbie I'd like to know (after having read the NYT piece) what is up with both founders of this site being incels? Is this just a coincidence? I personally don't like incels and I definitely don't Identify as one so I would certainly Not like to think I'm part of an incel majority site or one run by incels. If I remember right misogyny is part of the abuse that can get a member banned on here and I haven't seen any vitriol leveled at women so I don't think this is a misogynistic/incel forum, I just want some clarity thanks. Also I will add going private makes it sound like we have something to hide, no one on here is coercing others into suicide I hope (another banable offence I believe?) so I feel like (to use a metaphor) we're reeling in all our lifebuoys and away from the reach of those drowning at sea. I have emailed elected politicians in my area (using my real name) to show my support for assisted suicide (in the past couple of years, nothing too recent) so I care only a little about my privacy. Fuck doxxers and all that but I worry that going private makes us look guilty and it makes us harder to find for those who really need to read what we say so as to not feel so alone and ctb out of despair. As someone who truly has nothing to lose I think it's worth the risk trading in my privacy to stay open so that the public can see what shams the NYT and Buzzfeed are and so that people who need this sub can find it.....Is there an existential threat to this forum that merits this site becoming increasingly private: I don't know. The NYT are scum, they are the elitist cheerleaders to coercive lockdowns that have resulted in hundred (or more accurately thousands) of times more "deaths of despair" from lockdowns than this site would have ever encouraged. For those who CAN live joyous meaningful lives...they should, the NYT definitely doesn't think that way, they are hypocrits.

Surveillance, social credit system, false flag operations... you name it. All can be made legal using "public interest" as an excuse.
This forum should not be public because humanity is not ready for it. Those who look will find and those who have found are welcome. Just put up a public sign letting them know this is the place.

Regarding surveillance - it really depends.. like here in kindergardens theres been some workers doing bad things to the kids/toddlers/babies ..so i guess it would be the right thing to put CCTV cameras in to protect the kids ... But theres no need to do so on places like SS.. nothing bad going on on here ,forum is perfectly legal too..
Hard to vet members if they can't say anything about what they want to join. Also not everyone wants to be a member. Also things like PPH and discussion should be visible so people can be educated and make rational decisions. @myopybyproxy@diyCTB you can read the discussion here: https://sanctioned-suicide.net/threads/ss-visibility-and-new-rules-what-do-you-guys-think.80554/

Wtf I didn't know it was this bad. I also don't disagree with the forum being privatized. It's just sad that it has to be this way. How we all have to hide away from the rest of the internet because they will harass us. Ironic NYT claims to be helping us we they are really just persecuting us. I hope the founders are okay. I hope they are safe wherever they are.
I guess the problem just boils down to who we know is safe or not. There needs be some sort of way to stop the anti-choicers from getting on. But, know their persistence, they will probably just fake utill they can gather enough evidence. I'm all out of ideas. We can't really have one or the other.
I hope that our country realizes that when people truly want something, they will go to whatever lengths they need to do get what they want. Instead of persecuting people for things they have an urge for, I think we need to approach as many people as reasonably possible from a place of understanding, support them and help them thrive. It seems people would rather be outraged over things they don't fully understand and it's unfortunate.
That is so true.
Examples:
Drugs are illegal, does that stop anybody?
Places where abortions are illegal, people go to where it is legal, or go to butcher shops. Speeding in your car is illegal, most people travel at 10 mph over limit.
The pro-lifers who are against abortion and/or suicide are similar in that once they get their passions enacted, they then walk away from the people with the problems, saying, "It's YOUR problem now, deal with it!"
