Research things like the nearest shops or your route to places like the library/gym/high street.
Try out different options (walking/cycling route, driving, bus etc) - don't always trust google for the best route
Experiment and wander round each shop/supermarket to see what range of products they have, if one is better for discounts or product ranges you like etc
Tour round all the gyms using free trials and taster sessions to get a feel for them (and free exercise!)
Sign up to the library if you have one and/or explore what they have on offer to loan, and the staff are likely to be helpful about the local area.
Search socials for local residents groups and have a nosey through posts, events and whatever else is posted online.
I'm sure others will have other suggestions, but I relocated about 3 months ago and was very grateful for dry weather as it made it loads easier for me to be out and about just wandering and exploring by foot or bike while waiting for my job to start.
Good luck. There will more than likely be friendly welcoming people around that will be very keen to share their suburb with you!
