Assisted suicide, you guys... I'm wondering about assisted suicide. Is it possible? Have anyone of you tried applying for it? How was your personal experience? Does anyone here know someone who has? I'm specifically curious about cases where a person with a mental illness, not an elderly or terminally ill person, was accepted. Are there any instances where someone was unexpectedly approved against all odds? I'm looking for some hopeful stories, if you have any to share.

It is my absolute dream to get accepted for assisted suicide...

First you'll need around 10k or 12k on your bank account... (maybe more with travel fees). Then it's more complicated than you think. If you live in Canada, Switzerland or Belgium, it could be easier but you must be very ill. There is an exception with Pegasus in Switzerland but now they ask another person who validates your suicide. Sadly it's quite impossible. Only new laws that legalize it will be the solution. But we may wait a long time...

You have Dignitas, Pegasos and Athanasios in Switzerland that offer VAD for people from across the globe. I am currently in the process but it ain't easy given I am in my early 30s and do not have support from the family. It is also my dream and will be fighting for it like a lion ;) If you are above 40 chances are much higher to get the green light with no family support from what I understand. Anyways you will need to gather all medical docs, translate them if not in eng or german, along with some other admin docs like birth certificate, marital status and biography. Fingers crossed in case you decide to give it a try:hug:

Here is an article about an assisted suicide of a person with mental illness

According to this Pegasos encountered legal threat from the family of the woman who ended her life by assisted suicide, in 2020. It seems they are still accepting mentally ill but physically healthy people, but it's needed to to be accompanied by family members.

Before abortion was legal, there were back alley clinics that would do the service. If you look on the dark web, you could probably hire someone to take you out.

Dystopian world. I could already imagine "Yes, here is my brother, he's been suffering from suicidal thoughts since he was 11. Please accept him into the program, he tried so many times to get peace" . Where is the brother's autonomy? Why should he bring someone to speak for him? And also I'm pretty sure they don't accept anyone besides a certain age which sucks even more.

If I wasn't suicidal and had to do this for someone, I would despise the world in a very pro active way (can't say). Not because they took my friend away but because they don't care, they don't care that I had to go with him for him to be able to get HIS peace, they don't care that he was in pain for his whole life, they don't care that he attempted many times either. They just don't want to hear about it , so much so that besides making the subject taboo and hard to talk about, they are actively going against it so that no one will be able to kill themselves, just to keep their la-la land up and running.

Hell wishes it was earth. And basically if I didn't make it clear since I reread it and it's not that clear; there shouldn't be a need of anyone else coming to validate YOUR experience, the fact that it's like this in some places is terrible and infantilizes us. I don't have anyone to vouch for me, so I'll have to do it the old fashioned way and I'm also not old enough in society's eyes. Fuck this planet, didn't know you had to meet requirements to kill yourself humanely
