At 26, I realize this reality: while people around me are able to find a job overnight, I, on the other hand, have been severely excluded from the labor market, having to work as a street vendor to survive. Damn ableism.

I hate the hyper-positive discourse that says "disabled people have no barriers," when the reality is much more complex. But since disabled people are usually marginalized and ignored, no one notices.

I experienced that twice, somehow I managed to get out of there but it's pretty horrible to live that way and I live in constant fear of going back there.

One is unable to get out unscathed. It's a traumatizing experience. I'm glad you got out. Are you able to afford complex trauma therapy long term?

The harsh truth is most disabled peoples lives are a lot harder than the average persons life. I hate when people try to romanticize disabilties as being "special and unique" no this shit is hard!

That kind of reminds me of when people say shit like "I don't see colour" and other similar statements when discussing issues of racism. Basically, it's just performative bullshit that ends up sweeping any actual discussion on the complex challenges that marginalized people face under the rug.

I have chronic illnesses and disabled with chronic pain 24/7. I have been looking for jobs I can do at home, I apply to them, and never get a call back. It's really hard :/

My disabilities and pain everyday are the main reasons I'm on this site

You can try Vocational rehab in your state they are suppose to help people with disabilities find a job. They were never helpful here in my state though and you got to be careful if you are on benefits like I dont think you can work more than 20 hours a week

Same here. Besides being homeless and living in an unsafe shelter. 😕

I was always told that disabled people get help if they can't manage certain things.

Unfortunately not, we have to do everything ourselves and pay for it. If we get depressed because of it, the people who are supposed to help us come around the corner with psychologists and pills so that we can go back to being quiet in our corner on the fringes of society.

You don't have to help us, but please give us the opportunity to go quickly and without pain.

In the shit hole where I live (conservative religious), they are legalizing it only fur cases where it's certain you're facing death already in 6 months (terminal illnesses). 😐😑

Denying seriously ill people a merciful death is simply evil.

Where I live, there's no such thing, not even for people who are close to death. They're sent to institutions and given medication until they pass on their own.

Thank you. And, I'm sorry you're living with chronic illnesses and are unable to find work that you can do remotely. Also, life is what it is. Though, it'd have been nice if people would've healed their shame and would have invested more in social well being and human connection and intimacy instead of pursuing billionaire culture of hoarding wealth. Some of us, disabled people, would've benefited from safe housing, community integration and more policies investment for more inclusiveness. Glad USA anti DEI bonanza hasn't impacted the EU.
