I cannot leave behind any form of suspicious purchase history, unfortunately, and have to work with what I've got. What pitfalls might I run into with the current method?
It probably doesn't produce enough CO and you end up as a vegetable. The other emissions in the exhaust may make it unbearable in your car/room.

Edit: it's not suspicious to buy a grill, charcoal, and a tent.

Thank you for your input! I will reevaluate!

It would be suspicious in my home situation, unfortunately, to purchase most means outside of my day to day lifestyle :,)

I have not seen that thread. I'll check it out, thanks.
I have a small plastic shed in my backyard that is poorly ventilated. A couple of vents at the very top. Aside from that, just the cracks on the sides where it was put together. It gets very very hot in the summer. My tent would fit right inside. With my tent inside, AND a tarp over the top...….seems foolproof to me. Hell, I could even put more charcoal in the shed on the outside of the tent for added assurance. That whole fucking thing would go up well above 10,000 ppm with the tent included. I'm just worried about my father getting harmed when he finds me...

I belive this can't hurt someone that find you. 'The Co' just hurt enough if the person keeps on a place for a long time, time enough for the body can't breath anymore. If you are with CO for some minutes and then go out, you won't be hurted. I don't speek english very well.

That depends on the concentration of CO! It can knock you out in seconds and can kill in minutes if the concentration is high enough. It's dangerous bc we can neither smell it nor see it and we get no alarm signals from our body.

Hi. I'm new here. I'm tryins this method today on these write moment... wish me luck!
Yesterday I bought a small barbecue, charcoal and matches. I searched on YouTube how to light a barbecue. It was easy, I ascended very easily.
I left it burning in my house, near the window, while it was in the moment of smoke, in the meantime I ordered food from Ifood, dessert, I prepared some snacks and French fries.
It was only at these moments that I started to feel some symptoms. It's really not good to be stuck in the smoke, I felt a lot of burning in my eyes from the smoke, a slight sensation of high and a tendency to faint. Now with everything ready, with the coal turning gray, I placed the barbecue in my room, closed doors and windows and waited for the CO concentration to be sufficient. I put on a cool movie, and I'm going to die eating, watching and drinking myself to sleep and (I hope), never waking up again. Things I forgot to do: I forgot the mayonnaise to eat with the snacks and I forgot the marijuana. I started doing this in the early hours of the morning, when I went to sleep. I live alone, so no one will be worried about me or come after me. They should only start to worry about me towards the evening of the next day, when they see that I spent a lot of time without looking at WhatsApp. THAT'S IT... I'm going to make a promise to you, I promise that if it doesn't work, I'll come back here tomorrow to tell you. If I don't come back, then you can be sure it worked and I died. Again, wish me luck!

Oi. Eu sou novo aqui.
Hello... I couldn't do it... I spent the whole morning and the whole day with the barbecue next to my bed, but I didn't feel anything, just burning in my eyes sometimes. I'm going to try again today, this time I'm going to turn on the barbecue in the room.

While I've been a part of the "shadow" community for a couple of years. Recently I decided that I should write, and also express anything I may encounter building to and up until the main event. While maybe that will lead to the "what if" I shall document the experience. I write to you all as I plan to CTB tomorrow via Portable Generator in a mid size sedan. It currently sits in my slightly less than. 3M³ cab vehicle, no CO sensor. No block off other than to cover any visibility into the vehicle for any innocent bystander. Coordinates will be sent via delayed message. 24 hours from now, I will answer any questions or concerns that one may have. If I were to fail, I will document what went wrong, for future consideration of such method. I have had enough time to determine my final demise and this is my end-game. At this time, does anyone have any questions or concerns that I may be able to answer?

I attempted ctb by burning some charcoals in an enclosed car. The car got so hot that I thought I could get cooked. I decided to get some ice to cool my body. Immediately I stepped off the car I collapsed. I was alert during the process. Are there some tips that I can take note of when using this method ? How do I reduce the heat inside the car because I plan on attempting tomorrow?

I'm perplexed about this potential problem also. I considered if burning charcoal in one location versus splitting it into something like 4 different locations would solve the problem. Eventually the temperatures reached would be the same so that's not the answer.

Possible fixes;
  • Burning smallest amount of charcoal required
    • The less charcoal there is, the less heat that will be generated(?)
  • Speed
    • Getting the CO level high enough that you'll die before it's an issue
  • Reducing body temperature
    • Takes your clothes off...
    • Small pool of water to lay down in if you're using a tent
I would be interested to know how hot it would be compared to a sauna. You could practice withstanding the temperature if it was similar?

I bought a proper tent today yay. It's actually the same tent as Zanexx used when she ctbed.
Now I have to buy TPI 707 CO analyzer and then I'll be ready to go
I haven't read the whole thread yet, but IIRC there was a poster proposing a certain CO meter that would measure up to 10000ppm. That is not the case. This meter:

Extech CO260

does measure values between 0-9999ppm. It costs +800 euro (but you only die once, yes?).
Thanks for the models whoever brought these forward. A downside of this method is how expensive this single piece of equipment is while not being necessary, but probably highly encouraged for safety reasons.

Charcoal, grills/metal buckets, tents, bricks, all cheap, can be gotten in used condition easily. Getting a CO meter that measures up to 10k is a nightmare because anything above a reading of 100 is all you need to determine if something is not safe, nobody needs these. Really feel for anyone in the same tricky situation, I was gutted when I realized the cheap CO monitors only go up to 2000 at best.

Quick Question.
How much Charcoal Briquettes do i need for CTB'ing in a 2man tent?
Is 2 kg of Weber's Briquettes enough?
Thanks in advance.

Would it set off the smoke detetectors? Thought about doing it too in a closed room.

I've had several failed attempts and do not want another. I'm going with CO plus SN. I'll also have a gun by my side in case something goes wrong or discomfort gets unbearable.

One out of the three should work.

I just bought the materials for this but am worried about finding a place.

I live in a suburban area of a major US city. There's a back parking lot in my apartment complex that doesn't get much traffic and I always thought parking my car there and ctb'ing there would keep me from getting caught for quite some time if I needed a method that required it.

The issue is dealing with the hour it takes to prep the coals. I can't think of a way to be discreet about that part, especially in the middle of the night. (There's a grill but I think it's only available during the summer and it's not one that requires your own charcoal I don't think? Idk how grilling works.) The charcoal makes a lot of smoke and smell, right? I have no idea lol.

I see campsites being suggested a lot but during the day I'm likely to get caught in my car and at night I'm likely to arouse suspicion with the charcoal.

I see some Airbnbs that have fire pits a lot of them are far away and expensive, and I would have to get care for my dog.

I don't know what to do :(

That depends on the CO level, which is why you'll need the expensive equipment for safety, otherwise you're taking a massive risk. The table provided some pages back should give you an idea of the target. To reach those levels it's a case of creating CO and trapping it, so you might want to fill the space with CO first, use your measurement tool, and then enter the space. Safety first. If you hit the 10k barrier, raise your head to the top of the space, you'll fall unconscious once your blood runs out of oxygen.
The issue is dealing with the hour it takes to prep the coals. I can't think of a way to be discreet about that part, especially in the middle of the night. In the beginning yes, but once the charcoal turns entirely a shade of white, it continues to burn producing heat and the invisible CO. Prepping the charcoal is a case of getting rid of the smoke phase and then introducing it to the enclosed space.

The Zanexx thread is very informative. I was thinking about CO in a sealed room with charcoal but from reading that, the 2 man tent, chimney and bucket might be the best approach. She documented her progress very well and I have the same charcoal she used, the Weber Briquettes. Having a car means I can drive out to a campsite somewhere.

I was concerned about all of the smoke and burning the place down, I want to leave my flat in good order so it can be sold on quickly. My neighbours would likely break in anyhow if they smelt the smoke as I've been quite depressed lately so they have been keeping in touch.

My main thinking is to burn enough coal, you'd need quite a few chimney starters at once getting it started. You would need to do quite a few rounds of burning & prepping the coals before your desired amount was ready in various BBQ buckets (or whatever you decide to use).

Am I right in thinking this? 🤔

I bought some bags of charcoal and it says they're smoke free. I was just wondering if anyone has tried such a thing and how it went? Is it a good idea or not so much?

Also, I have access to a fireplace, an old open fireplace and even an old (but in very good condition) wood oven, like traditionally used to make bread and pizza. I live alone in a big house, people walking in won't be an issue. I'm thinking about what's the best place to light the coals (and how). I plan on then moving them to a small bathroom. It sucks that's almost summer and it's getting hot. I'm waiting to have my will signed and legalized, after that, I'm on borrowed time.

Also, this is my 1st post so I have to say this is what being a humanist/humanitarian means. This site is the greatest gift since my ordeal started. I've been to countless doctors and though many therapies that either do nothing or make it worse, no one takes me seriously. All they want is to pump me full of antidepressives to make me go on surviving in this misery. It's inhumane! It's disgusting! I always felt sorry for people who drag themselves in constant pain, living miserable lives on the streets or falling apart houses. If it's their choice and they still have something to hold on to, good for them. Me, I always knew that when/if that happened to me, I'd take the honourable way out. Surviving is easy, all animals are hardwired to do it (humans included), dragging themselves through pain, horror, whatever it takes to see another day. Dying is against all living thing's intincts. It's not easy. It's the no hope left. I'd rather die with whatever dignity I can than survive in this misery. And screw those who offer no solutions but want to force others to drag themselves in misery for as long as possible!

How did you figure out how much charcoal to use? A room? Rooms are usually too large and you will have a hard time getting the CO level up to a high enough concentration level. Small enclosures, like tents, are best. How long it takes to die completely depends on how high you get the CO level. How will you know how high the CO level is? They make analyzers for determining this, which cost about $300 US. If you're just "guessing" about how much charcoal to use, you can really mess yourself up. Do yourself a favor and research this method more before trying it. It doesn't sound like you've done enough research.

You really should read through the whole thread. I know... 63 pages?? But, really, read at least the first 10 or 20, they're extremely informative. But to answer your question, the safe amount of charcoal is about 1 kg/m3. So, for a small bathroom, let's say 1,5 m x 2 m x 2,6 m = 7,8 m3, you'd need 8 kgs of coal. It's quite a lot, which doesn't mean less wouldn't work, but the objective is to have a high concentration, high enough that'll knock you out in seconds so that you won't have to suffer through the nausea, headaches, etc.

The GULPS method was the best thing I found on this site so far and I'm so thankful for it. It does put my mind at ease. But just to make sure, I decided to do some math.

This is the equation, already balanced:
CH2O2 + H2SO4 = CO + H2SO4.H2O
1 mole of formic acid + 1 mole of sulfuric acid = 1 mole of carbon monoxide + 1 mole hydrated sulfuric acid

CH2O2
molecular weight =46,03 grs/mol
density = 1,22 grs/cm3

H2SO4
molecular weight = 98,079 grs/mol
density = 1,8356 grs/cm3

CO
molecular weight = 28,01 grs/mol
density = 0,00125 grs/cm3

We don't care about the H2SO4.H2O!

The GULPS method consists of using 50 ml (50 cm3) of formic acid and 250 ml (250 cm3) of sulfuric acid. I was curious, how much CO does it really produce? (Keep in mind that without heat or agitation the reaction my not be complete)

50 ml/cm3 of CH2O2 weight 61 grs (1,22 grs x 50), which is 1,325 mole (61 grs / 46,03)
250 ml/cm3 of H2SO4 weight 458,9 grs (1,8356 grs x 250), which is 4,679 mole

This means we have an excess of sulfuric acid. About 1/3 would be enough to react with all the formic acid, but I guess this is to make sure there's enough and then some more.

How much CO does it produce then? The formic acid is therefore the limitation, from 1 mole of CH2O2 we get 1 mole of CO. From 50 ml, which are 1,325 moles, we'll get the same 1,325 moles of CO (if all the formic acid reacts, which may not happen due to the conditions in which the reaction happens). And how much is that? 1,325 moles of CO are 37,113 grs (1,325 x 28,01 grs) or 29690,4 cm3 (37,113 grs / 0,00125). That's 29,69 liters!!!

From 250 ml + 50 ml you can get 29,69 liters of CO! Now I understand why it's so effective!! I'm sincerely impressed!

Just to take it one step further, considering we want at least 10000 ppm, meaning 1% of CO in the air, the amount of CO produced is enough for 2969 liters of air or 2,969 m3! So, theoretically, you don't even need a mask, you could let the reaction happen inside a small car and quickly get in and it'd most likely still work.

It would never have occurred to me to burn coal, I thought CO2 came from a hose from the exhaust pipe to the inside of the car. The truth is that the method does not convince me, something like this surely takes a long time and there is a high probability of failure.
