I truly believe that comments have no reason to exist anymore, you get censored by using specific words, you need to be careful to not get your comment instantly removed by the auto mods; most people on that video are already biased TOWARDS or AGAINST whatever the content showed there was; So you can't have any debate about the subject even if you start writing in good faith; why? Because the ones that start debates usually START TO DEBATE IN BAD FAITH , so you're automatically assumed to do the same and be one of them.

This applies to everything, from things that could be debated and are pointless (ex: pineapple pizza) to things that only have ONE TRUE ANSWER (ex: should assisted suicide be more common? Yes.) but some people might have different opinions; no worries right? you can make them understand the subject better and maybe change their view; but 98% of people who have a different view , don't want their view changed, they want to come down in the comment section like their own the place, start something in bad faith and flaunt their god complex.

Eh, I still like reading comments. I do it on every YouTube video. I like seeing other peoples' reactions and thoughts compared to mine. Maybe that's just my desire to see a fuller picture but I don't feel properly informed unless I read the comments.

the whole Reddit and meme-y swarm ruining the comments sections on most websites to be as purposefully agitating, sarcastic, and agitating to read certainly does make comments sections awful, yesu~ >_<
I'd say tho that part of the reason that you feel that way (from what you indicated as your main points) may be because you're commenting for the wrong reasons~ Commenting to argue is pointless because hardly anyone would ever be convinced, and you're just agitating and angering people~ Arguing online is a waste of time~ Meanwhile, commenting to help/encourage others, share extra info, and to make friends (perhaps, with like-minded views) leaves everyone more satisfied~ :) hence, why the comments here aren't absolutely awful because people here do those things~ :)

I'm personally not commenting for the wrong reasons, the people around me are doing that so it ends up being a waste of time because the convo I was having with the original person is flooded by right wing trash. I mostly comment on game related things giving some insight on the company, their greed and how that's the reason the game is bad.

But somehow jews and minorities start being the ones responsible. And the funny thing is I'm not assuming, it's either some random gun nut American with the anti LGBT flag emoji glitch in his ytb name (12 year old account) or some closeted pedo incel that hates the way women are portrayed or more like NOT portrayed; depends on the type of game.

So yeah, public comments suck, I guess I should have worded it like that? I mean I did I just didn't wanna go into detail but I'm too tired to try and not give examples.

The internet is dead, there are almost no real people at the big sites, reddit? Bot curated, no real human interactions on the site, even smaller subs die out pretty fast since the whole platform has become awful - I think even right now they are lying to their investors about the popularity of reddit, with their 300 mil bot accounts flooding in, all the while nobody in my social circle, around one hundred people use reddit, lol.

Other sites are also purposefully manipulated, facebook, instagram, tiktoks and even youtube a lot of times has curated comment sections. Add to that whole list the fact of most users on the english web are from USA and you have your answers, especially about people already having "no discussion, don't change my mind" mindset.

Just be grateful this site exists, and although it's filled with people running on 0.001% of their battery, at the very least it's almost everything humans interacting with humans.

I am grateful for this site , just talking about mainstream media. I hope that was clear; maybe I should have worded it differently. I agree with the rest.

Don't worry, I didn't write this to bash you, it was more humoristic than anything - it was ME that probably should have worded it differently :ahhha:

So you can't have any debate about the subject even if you start writing in good faith;
I think you're using the comment section wrong, as do some other people. As the word implies, people should comment on the topic at hand, not debate it. Generally the reason why people get into online arguments is that they don't handle a difference in opinions well. And some people take advantage of this by triggering them with controversial views to bait them into senseless debates.

Consider this before you get into a debate. Do you honestly care about changing someone's opinion, or do you just want to feel good about winning an argument? And whose opinion do you challenge: that of a stranger online, or that of a friend or colleague? Personally, there's no point in debating strangers on the internet when doing so ruins your mood.

The difference between leaving a comment and getting into a debate is to not defend yourself or disprove others. And generally this is done commenting just once and not comment a second time. For example, here I post my opinion on commenting on social media. Maybe you'll agree with what I wrote, or maybe you'll disagree. Either way, if I reply a second time, it won't be to defend myself or to attack your words.

I like to read the comment section of YouTube videos. People often point out things that I missed, or they post jokes that make me smile. Sometimes people make a great argument as to why something is the case. And other times I read a comment I disagree with, and think (critically), ultimately scrolling past them without replying.

Also I'm not entering into debates, the debates are entering me, in fact I've just turned off YTB notifications because every time there is someone who just can't help themselves.

Honestly, I do the same! I struggle with not getting into debates and take measures to protect myself from my shortcomings. I have notifications turned off too, on YouTube and iFunny. I still comment on videos, thread and funnies—I just don't read any replies. Only when I'm in a "debating mood" or in need of some dopamine, do I scroll through any reactions to my comments. I reply when it suits me, not when it suits them.

I think we will have a schism in a way, normies will use the big platforms, this concentrated and watered down shit full of ads, while the "weirdos" are gonna switch to linux and private forums, if those become infected, then people will start using TOR.
But those are 2 really different types of users, some get tired and find alternatives, but those will be the minority, the mayority start using whatever others are using, the mainstream so to speak, even my mom and aunts are using instagram, watching reels and all that, even though a while back they said they would never use those.

I just hope more people get pissed off more and more so that alternatives grow, I had to take a jump from windows to linux due to how garbage windows is, if it stayed "the same" I might've stayed longer.

So, the shittier options get, the more alternatives grow, and you will probably have even better conversations than before this shit began, because you separate the people who can tolerate slop and ones who can't bear with it.
