And if yes, whom did you recommend it / got it recommended?

Maybe a friend,
person you know online,
family member
or a reddit user?

nothing of this applys to me but I thought about maybe recommending it to some friends from which I know they have suicidal thoughts.

I was told/recommended this site by a user on here that I met online on another site after talking with them for over a year. I don't know what user though. We never shared our user names on here.

I'm sorry but that sounds absolutely evil

I think you should find this site on your own

although this site has been beneficial for me, recently I've become addicted and I regret even knowing of it at all, it's not nice being addicted to a site where people talk about death and hating life everyday. I could never wish this onto anyone else.

I'd want them to get help first before choosing this route.

I agree that this site is something that people should find on their own.

It could be a push in the wrong direction for someone who is passively and not actively suicidal. This site has explicit methods for ctb which I think is helpful for people who would otherwise attempt in much more unsafe ways and to make people feel that they are not stuck and have the power to decide -- possibly when all other choices have been taken from them (disability, circumstances, etc.). However it could absolutely give someone who wasn't going to attempt ideas that could make it more likely. I still don't think the site would have caused it because ctb is ultimately each individuals choice but someone may be less likely to without the knowledge of how to do so. I think that is not the case with folks on here because most people likely found it by searching for methods online (I did anyway).

Also I am pro-choice but I could not live with myself knowing I had recommended a site which ultimately gave a friend the knowledge needed to ctb.

It's complicated because there are also fantastic recover resources on here as well and a strong supportive community that I believe has actually saved many lives (contrary to what the media is convinced of). But I think if a friend was suicidal I would share recovery resources I have seen on here but not share where I got them from. I would also try to be there to listen and provide a safe space to talk about such things.

What a dick, seriously.

I don't understand why people recommend this site Willy nilly like it's a mommy blog.

For me personally I find it fun to gatekeep and use this site like my little dark secret, I feel like I'm miraculous ladybug and whenever I log off I'm like "Tiki spots off."

I found this site of my own as well, and this time will come someday for everyone having suicidal thoughts and wanting to have a space of unfilteredness on this topic. It isn't per se evil in my opinion to recommend this site, but I understand where you're coming from. If the person isn't in a mentally stable state it could be that she/her uses sasu "the wrong way", not just to for research of methods or communicating with others, but like you would persuade your friend to drink alcohol and in a year he is an addict. It depends on the situation and context and how well you know that person, because as @wishingonstars already said, the methods described in this website are really important for people who would otherwise commit in a much more unsafe way.

There's one particular person I've resisted telling about this site from the standpoint that they'd likely benefit from the feeling of community here, which you cannot get anywhere else in forum format at this level of activity.

But, while I think they'd be immune from any enhanced suicidality from engaging the site, I do believe they would be prone to overwhelming grief upon losing members they've made friends with, and that is what could trigger some extra suicidal thinking in them that otherwise wouldn't have happened.

Basically, I keep it secret from this person due to the grief aspect rather than its suicide content.

Too much risk for the reward.

If I went up to someone and said "hey have you heard of the suicide forum? It's pretty neat, it has posts every week on how to get Sodium Nitrate!" I would be whisked away to a mental hospital before I could finish my sentence.

tbh, I forget how many, but I've definitely told many people about this site and referenced SS to many people as well, and at least 2 have made accounts here~

I talk about it because I find SS to be much more welcoming and nicer than many other platforms~ :) it's a lovely place to talk about things in a world where people have so many issues and despair as it gets worse and worse~ :(

Found it by random chance. Wouldn't recommend it to others, as hypocritical as it may sound. Folks should find it on their own, and it's not like it would be difficult.

I found it while searching for info about methods. That led me to a NYT article which made it easy to find my way here.

I haven't told anyone else as I don't discuss this topic with anyone else.

First heard about it from the Tantacrul video, didn't actually know what it was called until a friend posted about it though. Like others have said though, you shouldn't recommend this site to other people. If they really wanted to use a site like this they'd find it themselves.

Honestly no. I think someone who doesn't feel well could, by fragility, take action much faster by having knowledge of the site. You have to be mature, prepared to read everything that's here.

It can hurt.

After I told my friend that I was feeling extremely depressed, he sent me a link to a thread containing a guide on hanging. From that point on, I found myself becoming increasingly drawn to the site, almost to the point of addiction.
