More than likely, what felt like suffocation, was actually a severe anxiety attack.
The feeling of anxiety can manifest itself in almost any way one can imagine.
Suicide is stressful, and a panic attack wouldn't be uncommon. If someone specifically felt "suffocation," then this was anxiety, a gas with CO2, COPD, or improper flow rate.
certainly not to discount the users experience, but an atmosphere of a pure inert gas just doesn't induce this sensation In individuals without impaired respiratory issues or allow for consciousness longer than a few seconds when active breathing is employed.

I tried this method a couple of months back. I was able to purchase everything online. Helium balloon canister at 97%. When i decided it was time i followed all the instructions turned the helium on and started to breathe deeply for 30/40 seconds, i felt nothing to be honest. So i removed the bag and turned the helium off. Next thing i know i'm waking up 20 minutes later totally confused as to what had happened and where i was. I think if i had given it longer i would not be around anymore.
Has this ever happened to anyone?
This was using plain old Helium for balloons.

I do not believe the helium would be 100% pure. My guess is that it is doped with oxygen.
In terms of the exit bag, may I suggest that you consider the non-rebreather mask? There is ample information on my blog on Blogspot. My handle there is nitrogenexit.

Perhaps a tarp a frame deal with duck tape to seal the seems. Perhaps leave a little exaust hole like in the exit bag. So what if I did something like this, would a 150 CF tank suffice? I'n essence it'd be a large bag over the head.
Ideally than I'd turn the gas on low as hell. Right before I did, I'd knock myself out with a large dose of crushed benzo in alcohol tincture.
To avoid the panic while the gas worked up in concentration with the CO2 residual.
My paranoia is in a a frame tent about 8 feet long 4 feet wide and 4 feet tall, will the 150 CF be adequate..

This is a recipe for disaster. Air would leak into the tent from tiny holes and high chance you wake up with brain damage.
I was going to try something similar (in an inflatable bath) a while back and after some research and comments from very experienced members and welders I realised was a dumb idea and I completely dumped it.

@BlueDream77 don't feel bad, almost everybody who sees this method HATES the idea of the bag over your head, me included. Everybody (including me), came up with alternatives to the bag. But the experts insist the bag is the most reliable, with a proven track record. Alternatives will either plain not work, or will be fraught with problems.

I agree that this helium is almost guaranteed to be mixed with air. I see it's out of stock anyway.
The Peaceful Pill eHandbook has instructions on how to make a oven roasting bag hood. It's available from Exit International, and there are a few older bootleg copies in the resource thread. I have a March 2020 bootleg, but I can't remember where I got it from. Much of the info on obtaining gas and flowmeter regulators is IMO outdated and incorrect, though.
I'll tell you one idea I've had that I think would work - you'll think I'm nuts but bear with me...
I have a large-ish american style fridge freezer, firdge one side, freezer the other, and the fridge stopped working, wasn't cooling down. I rang a few repair engineers and one of them said don't bother calling anyone out just empty the freezer and the fridge, then turn it off and put pans of hot water in the freezer side, shut the doors and leave it for 3 or 4 hours.
I did and when I opened it I was amazed that it was still red hot in there, and even more amazing the fridge side was also red hot too - bugger because I'd left the milk in.
Anyway, I digress - these types of fridge freezers work by the coldness from the freezer side going though an air vent and cooling the fridge, and they are absolutely air tight, the amount of heat it retained for hours it was like a thermos flask. So....
If you laid one on it's back, put the N tank in the fridge and open the gas valve and shut the door, then get into the freezer side when it's had time to fill up, and shut the door, I think that would be 100% effective, if perhaps a bit Hammer House of Horror Dracula-esque.

Perhaps this post is meant to be humorous and not a serious suggestion, and if so, I don't mean any offense to @TheQ22, but even if so, I feel it is important for me to give my opinion in case others may try something like this idea. I don't believe it would work at all, and it is an example of a lack of understanding of how inert gas works.
Inert gas causes coma and death by preventing oxygen from being inhaled and absorbed by the lungs, and when breathing in an enclosed space such as a plastic bag, displacing and flushing away exhaled air containing carbon dioxide so it isn't breathed again which would trigger the hypercapnic response and create the urge to seek fresh air. To create the required nearly pure nitrogen environment, the air would first somehow need to be removed from the refrigerator and then replaced with nitrogen at atmospheric pressure. Then, unless the volume of the refrigerator is high enough that the exhaled CO2 can diffuse into the inert gas to a very low concentration, which to me is doubtful, a steady flow of inert gas would be required to continue to purge the exhaled CO2 so it isn't breathed again. Since gas is being added to the space, gas must be allowed to escape at the same rate to prevent the pressure from increasing, so a vent is required, which wouldn't be present in a tightly sealed refrigerator. Additionally, the volume of gas required would be many times that required for an oven bag.

No I thought it would work, there's a lot of gas in one of those welding cylinders, leaving it on in one side would displace all of the air very quickly if the freezer door was partly opened, creating a pretty much 100% nitrogen environment. If you then exhaled completely before getting in there wouldn't be a lot of CO2 to get rid of, and it'll be dispersed into something the size of a fridge freezer, not a small plastic bag around your head, so by dilution and volume the bag would be significantly worse for CO2 reabsorbtion.
I believe exit or one of them do indeed have a nitrogen / helium chamber - this is a DIY version.
Maybe it wouldn't work, but it would be more likely to work than trying to open the tank in a tent as someone said above, where the gas would definitely leak out.

Would alcohol help to calm the nerves during that first minute when you pull that bag down before you pass out? Obviously you wouldnt want to get too drunk... Or you'll screw it up. I'll probably avoid alcohol altogether or maybe have just a few beers before hand
I think a shot or two of your favorite hard liquor, or Xanax or other anti-anxiety drug would certainly help.
At least with this method, there is no worry about what goes in your stomach beforehand.
Can someone assist me with eu based materials. I've found two flow regulator suppliers but one is out of stock (escmode) and Max dog (which takes 6+ weeks) I will order the latter but prefer a local, quicker supplier.

I recommend finding an inert gas welding supply company in your country, then ask them for a flowmeter regulator for the type of gas you are using. Make sure it has the same type of fitting that the gas cylinder has so it will connect directly to it.
Shouldn't be a problem if the cylinder was also purchased in the same country, but *could* be a problem if another country. Each country specifies the type of fitting to be used, and there are many.

Yes I think most welding supply companies would have a website where you can purchase one online and have it shipped to your home. Since I live in the US, I am only familiar with the flowmeter regulators sold here that fit US standard tank fittings. My main suggestion is to find one designed for welding rather than medical gas like I believe escmode is.
