As the title says. Has anyone else failed with helium or compression suicide? What do you think went wrong? About a month and a half ago I´d finally gotten everything ready and attempted to self-deliver with helium and an exit bag. I´d emailed with the director of the helium supply company and felt reassurance that the helium purity was enough to do the trick. I checked to make sure there were no holes in the bag and did my best to do everything according to instructions. Cue me waking up 17 hours later having vomited everywhere and still feeling queasy. I still don´t know where I went wrong. The only thing I can think of is that, checking afterwards, I noticed that the tubes themselves have a really strong disgusting smell to them. I don´t know if this smell might have been so overpowering that I tugged the bag off semi-unconsciously.

After that I no longer felt reassured about the helium method and tried to move on to something else. After reading about compression suicide using a tourniquet I felt this was the way to go. Tried it Sunday according to the literature – over and over for hours. No result. I guess I just couldn´t get it tight enough or get the angle in, maybe because of how my jaw/neck etc is shaped.

I´m starting to get why the suicide attempt statistics are miles higher than successful suicides. Killing yourself shouldn´t be rocket science. I´m just trying to do it in a controlled way that isn´t too painful, insofar as it´s possible.

I haven't tried helium, only tourniquet. Where did you place the ligature? I've been close to passing out couldn't do it because of SI. But I think tourniquet is a pretty decent method and can potentially work.

I have Five Last Acts and had it placed high up on the throat as the book suggests. If you don´t me asking, what does SI stand for? Now I´m considering trying a different form of compression, maybe with different material, or combining methods into one.

SI stands for survivial instinct. Consider placing it lower but not too low apparently that's actually the fastest way to pass out, according to a forensic medicine book I read. I'm not sure if that's true but for me it works much better than placing it high up on the neck.

Can I ask what kind of regulator and flow meter you used for the helium?

I did not use any as the literature I have claims that it´s only necessary for use with nitrogen. Instead I had several tanks with tubing that I had taped together inside the hood. Do you have any experience with helium?

I've never tried helium, but I've done a bit of research on it. Everything I've read suggests that measuring flow rate is very important with inert gas deliverance, be it helium or nitrogen. Flow meter is important but at the very least you need a regulator, otherwise the cylinders will empty too quickly, and gas won't be flowing long enough to kill you.
