What is the fastest method documented to CTB? Considering both preparation time and time until loss of consciousness/death.

In the US many people have guns, so shooting yourself requires almost no preparation and causes almost instant death. It's the most common suicide method by far, outnumbering all other methods combined.

Jumping from a high place can require little preparation if you already know of a suitable location. You just have to travel there, and it is far away for some people. Time to death is probably nearly instant for most people, although some survive longer.

There are also more rare methods used by people with dangerous workplaces:

• There have been a couple of cases of airport ground crew jumping into jet engines, that would certainly be instant death.
• There was an Army maintenance worker who jumped into the tail rotor of a helicopter who died instantly.
• Workers in steel foundries occasionally jump into the molten steel, which would cause death in seconds.

I would say that shooting in the head.
I've seen numerous cases of people that didn't die instantly when they jumped in front of a train.

More effective yes but you'd need to wait until there were low visibility conditions at night to mitigate the risk of the conductor seeing you, and even then, it would still be VERY risky (of course, so would jumping in front of the train; even more so in fact)

I wouldn't even call it "relatively" peaceful. It's simply lights out akin to a shotgun but less of a body envelope violation.

Feeling wise and subconsciously I prefer the train method. But when I think rationally and use my brain, then I prefer lethal salts oe inert gas.
Feeling wise I still prefer to go with the train method, though I did plan everything to go as comfortable as possible with the lethal salts method. Rationally I find the train method or jumping (jumping not at all possible in my case) a bad way to die. It's on one head a not dignified death. Like the worst criminals that are punished by the death sentence in low human rights countries. They are hanged by full suspension.

I don't see how it wouldn't. You lose consciousness at ~30 mmHg (arterial O2) and inert gas induces this level extremely rapidly in a proper setup. And it will continue to plummet, making sustained consciousness impossible.

Hey, that's what was asked. That's the fastest way I know to achieve death. Even the electric chair or gas chamber took many minutes to cause death. SN could be an hour or more. Hanging sure isn't instant death. Any poison takes time to get into your system and there's a lot of suffering to endure before death occurs. Drowning is at least minutes. CO at high levels will render you unconscious very quickly, so you don't have consciously endure any pain and what not, but death is still not instantaneous. Only taking out the brain stem will bring about a quick death since no organ in the body can function without that connection in place. The only way to achieve that to a 99.9% degree of certainty is by blowing away the back of your head, and the brain stem along the way, via buckshot and a 12ga shotgun. That's it. If you have another way, I'm all ears.

I know but I trust the medical establishment up to a point. But not 100 percent. I'm just a bit skeptical. It probably is peaceful, but I have my doubts given how violent some of these convulsions can be.

So the thing with trains is they kinda have a bumper which could cause a not so instant yeet or results guaranteed. I always got the urge to run out and put my neck on the rail when the red lights started flashing, the dinging starts ringing, and the crossbars come down - until I noticed theres not as much clearance in front of those wheels for my fat Irish head, and all I could picture is my face getting ripped off, my body flying head over heels like a deer meeting a truck, and then I'm laying there, gurgling, choking on blood, and 30 seconds of agony feeling like an eternity.

Now a bullet train? Yeehaw! Bug on a windshield, right? But we don't have those where I live, so this method has come off the table for me.

It is possible to pull off the decapitation with a train though.
