Not really an intro as in animation, but the first minutes of Breath of the Wild and the world introduction are crazy gameplay-wise.

Hong Kong 97. There's no other answer

(skip to 0:41, the rest is title screen bullshit.)

Final Fantasy VII Remake. I prefer this one over the original:

To this day any intro of the classic Tales of awaken a nostalgic vein in me, I guess it's the desire to take refuge in happier times.

It's crazy to think that several of these games are already 10 years old.
Kingdom Hearts 2 Sanctuary is one of my favorites

I always loved the Kingdom Heats openings, probably because the abrupt and abstract sequence of scenes conveys a dreamy vibe, you know, something you would see when you sleep.

Not the opening but the idle title screen cinematic of Oracle of Seasons/Ages. The music is so good and how it rolls into the old school Zelda theme 😙👌

Also DK64 because nothing beats Rare's sense of humor

I will be able to recite the opening to Myst until the day I die.

Last but certainly not least, Descent 3. For those who do not know, the previous game ended a little... rough for the main character. This was a tense cinematic and a sad one to lose the ship you have been in for two games. 🫡

The dreamy vibe is one of the reasons that makes Kingdom Hearts openings good, it makes sense since it's a disney game.

Like the Tales of openings also, that's like an anime.

Off topic but how grindy are the Tales games? I have them on my wishlist as they look cool but I do not like RPGs where half the play hours are just trying to level to keep up.

Uhm... Actually the Tales of Series is not really grindy in a "strict" sense. Absurd level requirements have ceased to be a problem in RPGs since the PS2 - Game Cube days, nowadays, that problem is a matter of online games, games as a service and the like. That said, not even when I was a child and therefore much less experienced (around 9-10 years old). That said, not even when I was a child and therefore much less experienced (around 9-10 years old) did I have any grinding issue in Tales of games. in some games such as Xillia 2 enemies are leveled according to the difficulty/NG+ Cycle you are playing at.

The grindy factor comes in the form of unlockables, such as arts (special moves), skills (passive skills) or equipment. For example, in Vesperia weapons come with skills that will be active as long as you use them, even allowing you to use special artes, but if you want to have them always available without worrying about what you carry, you have to "master" the weapon or use the arte a certain number of times, which is usually not very high. The same applies to Graces F with respect to the title system. Tales of Series has a very customizable difficulty, there is a very high skill ceiling, but the entry barrier is too low, it can be enjoyed no matter what kind of player you are!

The only recommendation I can give you, since you are not used to RPGs, especially those that have a... Uhm... Let's say an "orthodox" structure, Tales of has weird sidequests. The sidequests have very specific time frames to clear them and their triggers are ambiguous to say the best. Since Xillia, it is quite easy to figure out what you have to do, all the games have a section that keeps track of siquests, your progress, how many events you have and a brief description to know what was the last thing you did. But in older tales of games you are in the shadows, if you play one as a "newbie", I would recommend you to use a sidequest guide if you don't want to miss anything in your first run.
