I have identified a possible hanging location from my home using a sturdy window frame - where 2 windows open, one above the other. rope can be tied around top window and larger one where I could climb through. I could balance on the ledge and then it's a 10ft drop. Terrible thought, but life has collapsed around me. So I need much strength to do this. If I sit on the ledge, with legs over the edge, and take several sleeping tablets. As long as knots are secure and good, does this sound workable?

Just tried the knots in my rope and realise the rope is quite stiff, not flexible enough. I can tie the knots but they don't slip very easily. What rope are people recommending?

Double braided dock line is strong, smooth and flexible. It is good for almost everything.
When you catch the boat, you need to tie it to a solid anchor point with little slack.
A boat is heavy and with slack in the line, a moving boat has a lot of energy. The line is strong enough to stop it, but where you tied the other end may not.

I´ve planned something similiar in the past and did some research. The best would be manila rope, 16-20mm strong.
It´s strong enough to catch the drop and it doesn´t bend like most synthetic ropes.
I tied a traditional noose with it, like they used at the gallows...
You could use something like grease or petrolatum on the parts of the noose with friction.

Manila rope was great "back in the day", but the new stuff is so much better. A large boat might use it, but the normal smaller boats do not. It is tough to tie and hard on your hands and other skin if it makes contact.

I think it´s best for long drop hangings. If you jump from 10ft down, the noose will break your neck instantaneously.
I don´t think that the surface of the rope gives you any additional discomfort.
If the diameter of the rope is to small, it kinda digs in your skin on impact like a wire.
What would you use instead?
You are right if we talk about normal partial or full suspension hanging without the drop

I've now read that hemp rope is good, can support weight and is flexible, but may need light scarfe round neck to ease friction burns.
