Hey everyone!

I'm researching hanging, full suspension, and was curious if anyone found any info on how it feels like?

In my case, it's most likely gonna be a short drop, so death by strangulation / asphyxia, depending on my luck. But opinions on how this feels like are diverse, ranging from painless to agonizing.

I'd like to know as much as possible about this. Any info is much appreciated.

All the best!

While I have yet to try full suspension, the feeling of strangulation I experienced during my attempts at partial were really painful. It got to the point that I just gave up on that method as it was unbearable even while high on weed. Again, my experience is only with partial suspension so I can only talk on the strangulation side of it. If unsure about the height leading to a hangman's fracture, I would avoid it if you're looking for a more peaceful and painless way of going, especially if you have access to firearms (especially a shotgun)

If you have any further questions feel free to reach out!

I don't think you'll get a satisfying and definitive answer. As you've noticed, it can differ greatly. For some, it's absolutely unbearable. For others, it's like simply fainting with no pain or discomfort. It's a bit like drinking SN. For some, it's just a bit salty. For others, it's like drinking bleach.

Probably depends on your pain tolerance and what kinda rope you're using. Some say it's horrible, others say it's uncomfortable, and others don't even remember any pain. Do expect to feel some degree of pain on your neck for a few seconds until you pass out.

How long did your partial suspension last?

it didn't last long tbh just because I found the pain quite unbearable. ive tried multiple times but I could never last long enough to actually pass out.

when i tried it I did low suspension, i was going more for just basically choking myself rather than the proper way. It felt weird, it hurt for sure but at as it went on i could feel myself slipping. My limbs felt cold and fuzzy, like when you fall asleep on your arm, and it started to get harder and harder to think. eventually my vision started to fade. It started in the periphery and then slowly moved to encompassed my whole vision in what looked like tv static followed by black. Idk what happens after that, i just know that i kinda snapped out of it? just one moment i was fainting and the next i was laying on the floor unable to stand. I had somehow gotten the rope off of my neck but honestly i dont remember taking it off. Left me with a nasty headache and dizziness for days. Everything took way more out of me for the next few days, i was out of breath walking to the bathroom, it sucked. I still cant let people touch my neck anymore without entering a panic 7 years later.

For me it wasnt like pain but i dont know how else to describe it, uncomfortable maybe? My face felt fuzzy and tight and after a certain point your vision starts to go black, i didnt fully commit to it i just wanted to test it out but honestly it was bearable enough for me. Will probably go with this method. Its sort of like a pins and needles feeling, thats the best way i can describe it other than fuzzy, you also start hearing a white noise sound.

a hangman's fracture occurs when attempting "drop hanging" not full-suspension hanging, also some users on this forum already pointed out that a hangman's fracture doesn't guarantee immediate death but rather a paralysis from the neck down

Never tried it but I was in prison and another girl there tried and failed, obviously with very improvised set up. She said it was the worst pain ever and she felt like her head was going to explode :( so, not great.

Thank you all for the replies! I am a bit disappointed in myself, was planning to make an attempt yesterday, but for some reason I chickened out. Felt bad the whole day today.

I'm not afraid of what's after death. I don't believe in hell. It's either nothing, or the soul continuing its bodyless journey. Either way, best way I can think of it is returning home. At times I feel curious and excited about what comes next.

I have 3m of 10mm thick rope that's supposed to hold 200kg (I'm 118). It has slip knots on both ends. Suspension point is an indoor staircase with metal framing, one slipknot goes around this.

I don't live alone, so I need to do this at night. I did a couple of 'test runs', sneaked to the spot, tied rope to frame, put slipknot around my neck. Everything seems fine.

Didn't practice losing consciousness yet. But I got a weird pleasant feeling when the rope was around my neck. I think I get why people get off by choking.

So all this and I still chickened out. Didn't even get out of bed last night. Even with all the pieces in place, acceptance and prep, I still get moments when it seems such an unthinkable enormity. Damn SI.

I've attempted suicide a few times (not rlly big ones) with this method and it hurts so bad, just the oxygen being ripped out of your lungs even for a short second just feels like death consuming your entire body. It's not even the stereotypical type of pain you feel when bluntly hurting yourself, hanging yourself literally feels like you're dragging yourself away from the human realm and straight to death fr.

A hanging that snaps your neck should result in a "lights out" moment with a second of pain and fear.

Most are not expertise enough to do that. Have to take into account of the rope, the length, the material, your body weight, your height, where the rope is attached, and possible people around who might intervene.

Most hanging attempts result in strangulation. You will feel fear, whether you like it or not, and feel extreme pain in your throat, chest, stomach, and face. Some people have reported feeling pleasure after the pain, like a warm feeling washing over them when a specific vein in the neck is choked.

It isnt a pleasant way to go, and a long drop is easy to mess up and get crippled by.

I'm sure it's subjective and experiences vary, so there's probably no "right" answer. I can tell you what it feels like for me, but keep in mind this isn't advice or encouragement. You do whatever's right for you.

In my experience practicing hanging, I don't experience pain. It feels like pressure on my neck. Sometimes a slight pinch. But any discomfort I feel is usually replaced by full body tingles/numbness within about 10 seconds, followed immediately by my vision fading. When I was more of an amateur/less informed, I was using a thicker strap and it hurt more. Now I use a legit rope of the appropriate thickness and it's very tolerable. At least for me in my experience.

To be honest, the only things I've heard about the pain of hanging have been negative, in the sense that it's very painful. I've read through various forums that people describe it as a horrible and traumatic sensation.
