Heart sinking feeling when attempting the ligature strangulation method?

Is this a normal feeling? Is it a sign that you are on the right track to cut off the carotids? I find it quite an unpleasant feeling, wondering if it's a good sign of if I'm doing it correctly and that now I just need to get over SI?
