  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

Quick question: how pure does the helium need to be for a successful ctb?

And as a follow up, does someone know of a company that supplies/sells helium tanks in the US?

Thank you everyone for your input.

100%. I don't think they make it, but probably 98% or 99% would probably work, too. Balloon helium mixed with air won't work. That's usually like 80% helium, maybe even a little less. Any welding shop sells helium, as do gas suppliers.

Might I ask why helium and not nitrogen? I think nitrogen is much easier to obtain

Thank you for the question. Honestly, any of the suggested inert gasses would be fine. I asked about helium because i thought it would be easier to obtain. Could you pm me if you know anything about nitrogen. Thanks.

I did check on Amazon, but none of the products I looked at had good user reviews. I don't want to end up a vegetable because of a faulty product. That's my worse nightmare.

Hmm. I used one from amazon, it did not fail or have any issues. I had somehow removed or moved myself and pulled the hood off after I had passed out, but didn't have any issues with the helium. I do not know enough to give you any real advice on that though lol

I'm sorry you had to undergo what must have been a wild experience.

I'm looking at other options right now, like argon or hydrogen, but I will come back to this option if something better doesn't pan out.

I hope you'll forgive me for asking, but do you remember which product you chose for your ctb attempt?

And thanks for your input.

Yes, you have to have everything right. In terms of gas:

"The March Update - firmly shifts emphasis from helium to nitrogen and includes discussion on issues such as sources, physiology (the no-tell-tale death) & related lega practical issues" - March 2021 PPeH Update

I am not an expert, but I have read, and would encourage you to if you haven't, the 2025 PPeH and the Inert Gas Megathread here
