So, this is the situation: I have self harm scars on my upper arms, on both arms, and they are pretty noticable, now my family is discussing going to the beach all together and I can't possibly deny the invitation, so that solution is out of question, now, with that in mind, I need a way to hide my self harm scars, I can't stay out of the water or swim with a t-shirt because that would arise suspicion and, if possible, I want to avoid that completely.
I have thought about using makeup maybe, but I don't know if the makeup would survive the water and not fall off, still, I know nothing about makeup so maybe there is some that are able to pull that off, I don't know.

What do you recommend me? What other options do I have?

when i lived in florida and was forced to wear short sleeves, i wore UV protection arm sleeves. theyre meant for gardeners and people who work outside so they dont get sunburnt. it might just be because my family doesnt gaf, but they never questioned me wearing them.

you can find them easily on amazon. they even have quarter sleeves which mught be better for you. if your family asks, you can just say you dont want to get sunburnt or something.

another option is a very light, almost mesh-like beach coverup. or a terry cloth hoodie. i feel like theyre pretty easy to find in most stores. and its normal to wear to the beach. or, long sleeve/ quarter sleeve UV protection swim shirts are a thing too. probably have them on amazon.

if you cant spend money, then honestly your best option is to just wear a tshirt. dont be weird about it, choose a cute shirt that matches your swimsuit. go into the water like normal, but just up to your hips or upper legs. excuse? just say you dont want to get your hair wet (assuming youre a girl). say its easier to leave your shirt on since youre not getting completely wet anyway. say youre more interested in collecting sea shells than swimming.

hope this helps a bit!

Here are a few suggestions and a few product recommendations.

1.Waterproof Scar-Covering Makeup
There are products designed for full coverage and water resistance.
Dermablend Leg and Body Makeup
Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation
Mehron Barrier Spray
2.Waterproof Adhesive Bandages
Although this might draw attention
3.Compression Sleeves
4.Bracelets might work but chances are people might notice them
5.Both the hardest and easiest suggestion...Don't hide them. Own your look and your scars . Scars are a way to show that you've survived and that you are still holding on .

It's ok to be scared or worried about what people might think but you are you and whatever coping mechanisms you use are what help you stay around for another day.

I'm a woman and wear long sleeve bathing suits like these to hide my arm sh scars. I say I just get sunburned easily on my shoulders if anyone questions it but no one really does.
