• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

Most people who attempt suicide fail. It being the second most commonly used method doesn't negate this fact.

In this study, they also found that out of the 4.2% (130 people in total) people who attempted via hanging, 56.9% of people survived and 43.1% of people died. In total, the study found that 90.1% of patients survived their suicide attempts while only 9.9% succeeded.

How successful a method is for you comes down to a variety of factors, the biggest of which is execution. Even with the information on this site, executing many of these methods can be difficult for some in practice. To add insult to injury, you have to execute these methods correctly or else you risk potentially dying a horrible and slow death, or worse, sustaining permanent damage to parts of the body. Most people who try to commit suicide have to attempt it multiple times before succeeding.
@EvisceratedJester The human body is more resilient than people realise this is why failed suicide attempts happen .The act of sucide in itself is a harmful act because a person is exposing themselves to danger and the body is built to fight against danger and prevent a person being drawn to dangerous situations.

Your body will always fight for your survival even when your mind gives up on you it is crazy.

As a survivor of a hanging attempt, it's never worth it, once you're there and you're about to choke you will become a rat enslaved to your survivial instincts, nobody will come to help you and you're all alone, personally i realised i'd rather die a excruciating and slow death than die by hanging, when i was there i was just a rat enslaved to SI screaming for help, its not just about the fear of surviving, during a hanging attempt you are literally a trapped rat being tormented, you regret thinking about hanging and wish you were just in the comfort of your bed instead of being in that place, it's not worth it, the psychological torment of SI in these moments is worse than being burned or crucified to death and its even worse when you scream for help and realise you're all alone and nobody is going to save you, trust me, the psychological torment of SI in your final minutes is more intense and extreme than the cruelest medieval torture methods you can think of, I wouldn't recommend trying hanging, at least with other methods you won't die like a trapped rat being tormented till the end
@Dusk till dawn Thanks for sharing your story. Your story also shows humans are afraid of death Majority of humans fear death the evidence is all around us. Look at how hardened criminals who are sentenced to the death penalty fight till the end to avoid getting the needle. During the pandemic look at how people were terrified of getting infected with Covid19 even too the point of abusing members of public who failed to social distance. In the Pandemic severely disabled people in my country got public abuse and hate in Supermarkets for faling to socal distance. It was so bad supermarkets had to put signs telling people not to abuse disabled people who struggle with social distancing.

Look at how people who get told they have incurable cancer will spend so much money on expensive treatments and flying to other countries to try treatments to prolong thier life expectancy just a little longer.

With death we just don't know what exists on the other side that is what scares people. Humans fear death. When faced with death they will fight it.
That's a terrible story & should be heeded by all.
Its just not worth the risk of using certain methods of ctb.🤗💔
@maniac116 Awww I just love your profile picture so much its so cute
they should release the poor soul
@lilah If that was my child I am demanding the hospital turn off the machine.
this is one of the scariest things to me, one of the things that always gets me panicking... I don't know if I'd call it SI, its more just like... Some methods are a gamble, a horrific gamble...
It makes me think of Pascal's Wager... To me, the ceasing of existence is a good. The continuing of existence is torturous, but finitely so. Some methods are a roll of the dice, a chance at 'heaven', ctb, and a chance at 'hell', a further crippled and torturous existence that will be infinitely worse than it already is. If I don't attempt, my pain is finite, even if great. I can attempt to ctb, and could possibly end up free, but there is always the chance of infinite loss... Of course, with SI and my situation, the most likely outcome is nothing or a finite loss, but still... It's terrifying...
@FieldsofLavender This is why there needs to be more public education on how dangerous it is to kill yourself and what suicide methods do to the body. The reason why I have never attempted suicide all these years is because of reading stories about people becoming permanently disabled if it goes wrong.

Too many people think suicide is easy because the media constantly publishes news stories of teenagers and adults being successful with suicide. Those people who were successful with suicide had a history of previous attempts and ended up finally being successful others were lucky to be in an environment where they could kill themselves privately without interference etc
Just proves healthcare system isn't about healthcare. Why would you bring someone back to be in that state? Just to further the abuse and bullying. Poor child. This world is full of demons.
@Asleepatlast That girl will never grow up to have a normal life and her parents will be looking after her in their old age. When her parents die she will have to go either into a special care home facility to be looked after or if she has any siblings they will have to look after for the rest of their lives.

Those bullies are already finding it hilarious the girl is permanently disabled. The fact they went into ICU to take pictures of her to upload on social media just shows the bullies are taking pleasure in her suffering. These bullies are pure evil.
This is about the brain damage that occurs during death.
You should pass out quickly. You are now done but not dead.
You are anbe to be revived with minimal damage within 5 minutes. 6 minutes has more damage.
10 minutes gets you laying in a bed forever. You will have enough damage that "you" no longer exist. Only a shell that looks like you.
All methods face this basic timeframe. When oxygen stops being delivered to the brain, the timer starts.
@Worndown Any pressure against the neck is dangerous the rescent court case in the news involving Daniel Penny reveals this.

What happened was a White American man who was a former US marine was on a train journey in New York. During the train journey a severely mentally ill black homeless man called Jordan Neely was shouting and threatening the passengers. Neely had a long history of harassing people for money, violating attacking members of the public and the system failed him in so many ways get help for his severe mental illness and drug addiction.

Penny put Neely in a chokehold to restrain him. He put him on a chokehold for 6 minutes which caused Neely to lose consciousness and then eventually die from brain injury.

A neurologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, explained that chokeholds and strangleholds could kill or cause brain injuries in two ways.

>They can compress the trachea, preventing the person from getting air into the lungs. And they can compress the carotid arteries, which are on either side of the neck, adjacent to the trachea. Seventy percent of the blood going to the brain passes through the carotids, Dr. Saadi said. If that blood flow is cut off in a chokehold or a stranglehold, some people can become unconscious in three to four seconds. If the flow continues to be restricted, a person can die within three to four minutes.

>If a person loses consciousness, that is an indication of possible injury to the brain.

>Even if the person does not lose consciousness, strokes and permanent brain damage, including cognitive impairment, can result from a chokehold.

expert warn when using chokeholds it must be applied for 10 seconds anything longer can give brain damage or cause death
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/04/health/chokeholds-deaths-jordan-neely.html

Pressure against the neck leds to oxygen being cut off in the brain and this exposes a person to brain damage

How did you manage to survive if there was nobody around to save you?

Jesus Christ. An 8 year old. Imagine being a grown adult and perpetuating the bullying of an 8 year old to the point of attempted suicide. This poor poor kid. I really hope those teachers learn from this. The other kids, I understand to an extent. They're also children, yes they should know better, but I suppose that's what being a child is for, learning how to be a good person. But the teachers? My god.

@CinerateX How can school shootings stop in USA when you have bullying like this?

Now if the poor girl brought a gun to school and shot her bullies there would be a national discussion about mental health in America. The poor girl would have gotten mental health treatment in prison. It's like a person has to become a criminal to get help by the system.

I don't understand how people can do bullying when there is a epidemic of school shootings. You think with all these school shootings people would behave better and stop bullying.

I am from the UK and I never had to worry about school shootings.

Also from the UK, but American news can swim oceans, I suppose. And yeah, I hate that she'd have to become a monster and killer to get the help she needed. Or to just get taken seriously.

@CinerateX This is why I always say bullies know 100% what they are doing and shouldn't be NOT excused nor sympathised with.

In this day and age young people know bullying is one of the main cause of teenage suicides. USA just like the UK have anti bullying month and assemblies where they learn about the consequences bullying does to people.

These arseholes know what they are doing and don't care the pain they cause others. I will continue to say bullies are evil and it's time all bullies get put trial for their harassment of others. If adults can go to jail for harassment then so should teenage bullies.

I hated secondary school because these bullying arseholes made my life hell at school even a boy I had a crush on in sixth form also participated in bullying me too. It hurt so much because I thought he was different from all the boys in school but he was just a bully like them.

He became an arsehole towards me because in the sixth form where talking about us hanging out a lot in the common room and he began to distance himself from me and then participated in the school bullying. His bullying of me was indirect and it eventually came out it was horrible to experience.

I wonder what the statistics are for people who hang themselves but prepared their attempt using things like the megathread, I'd reckon it's probably higher right?

@MercenariesofMidgar This is why we need better public education about how dangerous suicide is for the body.

Most people think sucide is easy because of the media showing successful sucides of young people but actually more people end up severely injured from sucide.

No wants to hear that. People want to read about that cute photogenic girl or boy who killed themselves and not the average girl who is in a wheelchair or her stomach pumped because she took a dangerous overdose.

People care about suicide if the person is attractive or famous that is society

Yeah... you don't get to hear all the hard stuff.
This story made me scared to hang myself too, by the way. I'm second guessing my attempts, I just really want to get out on my initial attempt but there are only 3 methods I can see myself pursuing (SN, Hanging, Drowning) and I'm horrified if I do pursue SN they catch during delivery, or if other people in my house find my package and open it. I have hours to myself where I wouldn't be interrupted in a hanging... and in the article if that poor child was found minutes earlier she would've been fine, and if she was found even five minutes later she wouldn't have lived. I'd rather not drown because I want to listen to music as I go out.

Oh jeez, that's horrible. I'm so sorry. I completely agree with you, especially with high schoolers. I had something similar in school too. I hope college was better for you.

@CinerateX University for me has been better than secondary school. I loved my undergraduate university year because I liked how I can go on campus and nobody harassed me. Postgraduate has been even better. I like how at university people value what I say and don't care too much about fitting in with the crowd.

At university everyone is doing their own thing. I feel sorry for teenagers who kill themselves because of school bullying because they got a chance to see how things get better when you leave school

I don't miss secondary school. I miss none of my classmates. I only miss my teachers that I was close with and staff at the school.

When I was at school (secondary) a 14 year old girl hung herself because she was being bullied so badly. I was 12 years old, so 23 years ago. I was being severely bullied also and tried to hurt myself because of the bullies and things that were going on at home.

Many, many people succeed with hanging (just like the girl I mentioned above). As long as there's no chance you'll be found, and you do it properly. There's been many cases where people have survived and are now severely brain damaged, but many have succeeded. Just Google it and you'll see.

If only someone helped these kids, they would still be here today. It is cruel to keep someone alive for others own selfish needs, that poor little girl. Unfortunately, that's not how society would see it. What quality of life will see have now? Zero.

Odd how we put animals down because there isn't enough room in a shelter or something, yet a person.. totally different. Disgusting really.

Aye, that's awesome to hear. I'm glad you're doing better then, at least. And yeah, those teenagers, just kids at the end of the day. Bullying really takes lives.
