• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

Of course not. But I do believe some people are idiots. Is that so wrong?

The problem with it is that people can sense it. That you hold them in contempt. That's you judge them. And if you're anything like I was, there is a very narrow band of what makes a person smart. Academic intelligence? Is a person who can build a house dumb because he doesn't read a lot? I know I thought that's for years. And it kills your life thinking like that.

How can you sense something like that based on a post or two. And we all judge everyone. That's human nature. EDIT: It's normal for people around my age who were born and raised where I was born and raised, to use words like "idiot" and "idiots" in conversations. It's not a symptom of arrogance, narcissism or whatever etc... Sometimes the word "idiot" is used to make someone feel like shit but I wasn't using the word "idiot" or "idiots" to make anyone here feel like shit. I just wanted to talk about these people and suffering.

Maybe I'm wrong but I read what Severen said as: people who live a more carefree life might die younger and as a result avoid much suffering. Those who are more cautious might live longer and suffer more, just like how perfectionists take more time to finish a job.

I had an older person tell me once the difference between judging someone as in 'do I need to be cautious?' and 'Ive decided they are this and I shall treat them in particular way based on that judgment.' It was good advice I didn't understand at the time.

I respectfully disagree. Although it sounds pretty cool, I don't think that's true. In order to be a cynic you need to have some degree of intelligence. People with lower IQs often have difficulty lying successfully, recognizing cynicism and sarcasm because they require more thought process.

I don't think you need intellect to view the world and people in a negative manner. What you do need is a negative outlook that you probably learned in childhood.

Maybe a better line would be 'seeing the world negatively is not intelligence.'

This idea that people who are positive or not occupied with existential crises and questions are dumb... man wouldn't that have been awesome to not be mired in those questions and just live life?

I'm also going to have to disagree with you about the lying/cynicism/sarcasm thing.. I think anyone is capable of this stuff with enough practice.

Have you guys read the book by Aaron Clarey? It's called the curse of high IQ. It's pretty good.

I read a great quote somewhere.. cynicism is not intelligence.

Cynicism is not intelligence, but the cynical correlate much high with intelligence, by a deviation I belive(!) (and if you don't understand what i'm talking about, perhaps you shouldn't snark....)

I seem to relish in insulting others whom I deem less intelligent than me, based on what, exactly? This thread? Do you have any other examples? I've also never been hostile and aggressive to anyone in this community until someone in the community has started being hostile and aggressive towards me. And this kind of behavior has only happened in 2 threads(including this one), if I remember correctly. Not once have I been hostile and aggressive to anyone in this community who was friendly to me.

I'm a bit more dickish than you on these matters, however I must state that so many of these threads and responses fit into stereotypical and/or obvious notions that I'm wondering why such threads are even responded to in the first place - Half of the threads are insulting, based upon how obvious they in fact are, and few seem to even know basic nomenclature - again, fine, then stop talking about it and read a goddamn book first before talking about it -

The response that takes the cake for me is that "antinatalism is otherwise known as anti-nihilism" - hahahahaha.

As for cynicism, it's just a synonym of "realism". There's nothing wrong in knowing that in organized societies nothing works efficiently and never will be, it's just because a very large percentage of human beings tend to make their choices based on preconceived and non-tested assumptions, confirmation biases, inability to consider the situation as a whole, and obviously wishful thinking.

When it comes to "I'm smarter than you"... Well, it might not be polite to show your intrinsic superiority (real or perceived) in other people's faces, but some people are indeed more clever than others, just because they can figure out solutions and outcomes that other people won't ever see even in a mirage.

I think the whole point of the thread is that some people do stupid acts which end up killing them. Regardless of their actual IQ, those people are an 'idiot' in the sense that they couldn't or didn't want to see the consequences of their actions (drunk driving or...as mentioned above, taking a selfie next to a train). But their inability to do so presumably allowed them to die without having to be aware of killing themselves or possibly living to suffer like we, the people who are suicidal and alive, are.

Perhaps OP was being jealous, in a semi-joking manner, that the people who died doing 'stupid' acts were able to die like that. A lot of us, in contrast, are always conscious of death and everything it entails (pain for us and pain for others important to us, other circumstances, etc.), making dying a much harder feat.

I'm not sure if I understand your question...

Bit of a joke. The idea is if you die young you haven't lived long enough to be a crappy person.

Please remember everyone is here for the same reason and be as kind as you can, everyone is in a rough spot. No more flaming of anyone please, many have done it in this thread but I'm not pointing specific fingers, just a reminder to please be civil to each other; otherwise the thread will have to be locked if people continue to argue and flame each other.

I think people don't relish stupidity enough. It makes for great anecdotes. And it makes people bond.

I could say, that if lacking intelligence and being kind of retarded one, would save me suffering and make me feel some happiness, I wouldn't actually mind. Unfortunately it's exactly opposite...
