An update on the OFCOM situation: As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. OFCOM, the UK’s communications regulator, has singled out our community, demanding compliance with their Online Safety Act despite our minimal UK presence. This is a blatant overreach, and they have been sending letters pressuring us to comply with their censorship agenda.
Our platform is already blocked by many UK ISPs, yet they continue their attempts to stifle free speech. Standing up to this kind of regulatory overreach requires lots of resources to maintain our infrastructure and fight back against these unjust demands. If you value our community and want to support us during this time, we would greatly appreciate any and all donations.
The tent within a tent might work better. You could lay in the main tent with just your head inside the small tent then zip it up tight to your neck. That way you get the benefit of the small space but arn't actually in it so won't accidentally roll over into the charcoal.
Noo, I specifically got one with an attached groundsheet. That's not the problem, it's the see-through part at the top of the inner layer which I didn't realise was there until I erected it.

What tent did you use? Separate groundsheet is a terrible idea... you can get a pop up 2 or 3 man with taped seams and hydrostatic of 3000mm. Good luck. Honestly nobody can give you really good advice if we dont know what tent you're using and stuff.
Okay, so my current tent is a Pop 400 DS by Eurohike.
You would think I could find a single piece pop-up tent with 3000hh, but as of right now, no. They're probably worried about people suffocating.
I have looked in around 4 different specialist outdoor stores and bought and returned 3 tents before this one after realising problems with them upon closer inspection. This one is the first one I actually erected and used, so I can't return it. I don't think "not easy to suffocate in" is a valid complaint.
I'm on my way to a large GO Outdoors store now.

This 4 man pop up, is this the tent you failed in last night or is it one you just bought?
But you say you used it?
And you said it doesn't have a groundsheet stiched to the outer skin, which it has?

That's the one I used last night. The groundsheet isn't stitched to the outer skin. It looks like it is in the picture, which is why I bought it. However in actuality, the groundsheet is attached to the inner skin and the outer just clips/pegs over. The top half of the inner skin is not waterproof and is partially see-through.

Tents that have an inner skin. The inner is never made to be waterproof. It's like a tbag weave that just catches moisture drops that form on the underside of the outer skin due to condensation build up via human breathing vapour.

Yeah that is 100% your problem then. It's not sealed at all because as you know the inner skin isn't waterproof, all CO could easily seep out between the outer skin and the groundsheet. This is what I'm planning to use http://www.argos.co.uk/product/6687836
Single skin fire retardant, taped seams, 3000mm and best of all it's a pop up
Edit: Also good time to remind everyone DO YOUR RESEARCH before you start to make your attempt. Asking for advice mid-method was a bit of a mistake I'm sorry to say. I wish you better luck tonight though friend.
This story is useful. Remember it was an accident so his injuries can be ignored from a suiciders viewpoint.
But the timings are useful. They took it in 5 hours after it was lit when 'there was no heat in it at all' but she still died.
Now suppose they had taken it in at the 2, 3, or 4 hour point there is no doubt he would have died too.
I see stories of people wanting to light it indoors or take it in still red hot or flaming or smoking still. Absaloutely wrong in every way. Dangerous and wrong. You must be patient with this method. Like everything is in slow motion.
I do know this, by the time I took it in last night the coals were white and glowing and it had been about an hour and a half since they went from the chimney starter to the BBQ. I don't think I did anything wrong there, the problem was my tent.

Guys, I think I fixed the problem. I got a new tent, a Vango Nova 300, which I viewed erected before buying. The Nova has over 3000hh, a groundsheet attached to the inner section, sleeps 3 people and only has a tiny ventilation window on the inner (my previous one had an inner of which literally the entire top half was ventilation) so should be easily sorted out with a bin liner and some tape. I already put it up. This sounds good, yes?

Shit... is the Nova even any good? I really, really hope so. I can't wait any longer and keep spending money on tents. I thought double-skinned would be okay provided the inner part that was see-through could be easily sealed. Please someone check it out and let me know what you think ASAP!

Weedoge, I did do my research. I literally did loads for weeks. I read the entire 8chan thread as well as most CO threads on here and some tent-buying guides but I'm literally on my 5th tent now and none have seemed to be right. I have actually looked in Argos twice. I've been finding it very hard to find a good one, especially since you can't specifically search for minimal ventilation and most stores don't let you see the tents erected.

Nice but again the groundsheet isn't attached to the outer to provide a sealed unit. The inner orange mesh section isn't waterproof and is breathable so air will pass freely through it without hinderance.
This means that CO can pass through and escape where the outer (flysheet) is pegged down. See the gap and grass in the above vid. Screenshot below.
....................
Here's the type that has the outer attached to the groundsheet if any future readers know zilch about tents, get one like this. The fact it has no inner mesh section makes no difference for suicide. It's only the outer that will be trapping the gas anyway.

Well I wish you better luck this time, I honestly think the regatta one is good enough for me. I read you were going to use heat mats, personally planning to use a tray/dish of water to stand the bucket of coals in.

Do you have a car? I wondered how you got to the site with all the gear and have gone to buy more?
Okay, so basically I shouldn't either bother trying with this one?
I haven't camped since I was a child before now so I've had to learn all this from scratch. I'm kind of stuck now. I've spend nearly £200 in total on the two tents I currently have and I can't even return them. I have no idea what to do with them. The nearest Argos stocking the tent you linked to is nearly 40 miles away. I'm exhausted.
And no, I don't have a car. I basically dragged a suitcase and a tent around. Now I have two tents that I can barely carry. My suitcase is broken. And I've been getting trains and buses.

I'm struggling to accept the tent I have won't work. People die by accident from CO and surely they don't all have tents like the one you posted.
Also, Weedoge, the reason I was asking about the method while doing it was because I wanted to be absolutely sure I was doing it right. The reason I tried anyway despite the problem with the previous tent is because I became absolutely exasperated and desperate after failing to seal it.

Yes both my tents are up. I haven't had the energy to take the Eurohike one down yet. I'm feeling absolutely desolute. I don't know what to do with the two tents.
Your right, those other tent deaths can't all have had tents with sewn in groundsheets because they are quite rare. Nearly all tents are made like your new vango.

Another extremely wet day on the campsite. Hopefully the rain will pass in time for my next BBQ.
I've recovered somewhat from the absolutely desolate feelings I was having last night. Now planning to go to Blackpool tomorrow (too late to go today unfortunately, since it takes 3 hours) and get a Regatta Malawi tent.
I managed to take the Eurohike tent down, although I'm still having difficulty packing it up properly.
I'm sneezing near-constantly and one of my legs isn't working very well. It doesnt bend properly. I don't know if this is some weird after effect of my failed CO attempt or just coincidence but I'm basically having to shuffle everywhere and hold onto rails when I can.
So hopefully my new date will be not tonight but the night after. I'm going to try and book a couple more days at the campsite.
I'm a little worried about making people suspicious with all the various tents though. Yesterday I was having trouble putting up the Nova and a guy came over and helped me with it. He had put his tent right next to the Eurohike and my mallet and all my stuff was still in there so I had to explain that it was also my tent. Unless they leave today/tomorrow they will probably be confused when I turn up with yet another tent...
Also, just a quick question, I've seen a few people who are using the CO method saying they've bought a timer to use, could someone tell me what that is for (and if I should get one)?

Thing is there are many variables, you don't want to just recreate the situation of where somebody died by accident because there's no way to pinpoint the variable that caused their death. For example you can't guarantee where the CO would concentrate the highest in a tent with a bit of airflow. That's why it's vital to buy a tent that is already mostly sealed.
People have died by inhaling carbon monoxide leaning over the back of a boat but that doesn't mean it's likely to happen to everybody who tries it you know?
