Wide like a scarf or narrow like a dressing gown cord. I wonder if it's better to have something with a very slight bit of stretch so with partial you an ease into and also check it's in the right place - makes those adjustments as u lean in . Rather than a super stiff fabric which would
be more a a jolt and v sudden constriction kind of thing.

The problem with easing is that it compresses the jugular first and gives the uncomfortable eye bulging, head filling with blood feeling. Needs to be quick and strong enough to shut off the carotid at the same time.. which is around 3kg off pressure iirc.. might be different for people with thicker, stronger necks though.

Are I see - that makes sense - just scared to do quick & strong & choke rather than caratiods - I find it very hard to find mine and have never manually been able to pass out by pressing what felt like those pulse points at the same time- even though a lot of people have said they manage to pass out quite easily when pressing ! So annoying

I've never managed with my hands either, came close enough to know it would work but my hands become shaky and limp lol

I've come close to an enveloping darkness with tourniquet method - but it does hurt & is utterly terrifying- damn human brain!!

Here's the thing i keep thinking about finding the carotids; even if you find them with your fingers (which i haven't) and a lot of people say they have, well so what? I mean its surely nice to find them, don't get me wrong, but when you go to hang and the rope/scarf/etc is evenly constricting all around your entire neck , how will that simulate the same kind of pressure that people are applying with their fingers which they dig deeply into a very specific spot on the neck? I guess the better question is, once you find them, how do you transfer that knowledge of where they are over to using a rope and it causing the same sensation? Btw, I've read the night night megathreat and saw Kooz's suggestion to use the cornhole bags (which i bought), so I understand HOW its suppose to work, the prob is in testing it doesn't.

Your ligature shouldn't be stretchy, we need a reliable material so nothing happens to it mid execution. However I do recommend some padding. I rolled up a shirt really tight so it can stretch to get my head thru but then sit tight and snug around my neck.

Yeah I agree with you. I too found the sweet spot with my fingers and tried the night night method, which in theory sounds perfect, but in practice it did not work for me. I also found that with a tourniquet or a rope placing it at the level where my head and neck meet works best. Which is bit higher than the sweet spot I found with fingers.

Was this pain from the head swelling of jugular occlusion or the neck from the tourniquet itself? Because if it's the former winding your tourniquet faster helps.
And I totally agree with how terrifying it gets close to the black-out. Every time I tried, my SI kicked in and unwound the tourniquet just before I passed out.
