Seems strange that there wasn't a precedent for this kind of conviction, i was under the impression that such a thing is illegal everywhere.

Please bear in mind Australian media will generally speaking, victimize women and vilify and demonize men. Its just a part of the current social trend of "let's end domestic violence" Australia goes through many of these social justice trends, typically they will intensify and last mostly 1/2 years, then onto the next "issue"

I gather the latest of them involves the catholic church in australia and trying to get them to make it against the law not to report confessions of child abuse. I expect the church is getting its fair share of demonising and vilifying, but not the victimising.
